We'll be staying with my daughter her son-in-law in Seaside. Can't find a RGU to rent so I went with another fixed fairing bike. Yup, a Wing....:surprise:
Now that you're done laughing, it's a bat wing. So I lied a little.0
Anyway, we're flying in on 5/21 into SF. Picking up the bike Sunday at California Motorcycle Adventures in SJ. Will have it til Fri about noon so I'll need some help from you guys keeping the weather in line while we're out there. They only live a few blocks of of Highway 1.
Need some suggestions on what all to see while we're out there. Places to eat along the coast and all that good stuff. We're hoping to make a trip up to see the Redwoods also if time and weather permits.
I always liked to have lunch at Max's Opera House Café on the coast highway in Burlingame just south of San Francisco. I don't even like opera but I truly enjoy talent and the waiters were fantastic as they took turns belting out a song between serving great sandwiches. Haven't been there in close to 20 years but I'd go back next time I'm in the bay area.
You have to ride up on Skyline drive. If you take Hwy 92 from San Mateo to Half Moon Bay you come to Skyline Drive about half way there. Take it toward the south and it is a beautiful drive. After 6 or 7 miles you will come to an intersection and that is where Alice's Restaurant is. If you are lucky, you may see Neil Young there. He lives about 2 minutes away. You then can keep going south on Skyline Drive and go all the way to Santa Cruz. It is one great ride. Then take Hwy 1, PCH back up to Half Moon Bay, stop at the Pigeon Point Light House and then work your way up to San Francisco. You will absolutely love this ride. Also, while on Skyline Drive after Alice's Restaurant you will go past Fogerty's Winery on the left. Here is a map of the area. Skyline is Hwy 35. You also go thru a cool little town with a neat bar in Boulder Creek.Map of Burlingame CA | Burlingame California | MapQuest.com

Point Reyes across the Bridge in Marin County is pretty cool.
If doing the Redwoods I suggest taking Hwy 101 instead of Hwy 1 . Hwy 1 on the coast to Ft Bragg is awesome but you will be on it all day.
The Redwoods at Muir Woods in Marin are pretty cool and a lot closer.
Fred's Coffee Shop in Sausilito for b-fast or lunch. right off Hwy 101.
From there Shoreline or Hwy 1to Panoramic Hwy to Muir Woods. http://www.visitmarin.org/site/assets/files/1043/2014marinmap.pdf
Sounds like a fun trip, doesn't matter what fairing or no fairing. I rode around AZ on my brothers bobber for a week, still had a blast. Just makes you appreciate your RG more when you get back home. Enjoy & have a safe trip, take lots of pics
Very cool! I will be out that way a few weeks after you. I have an Uncle in Hollister that I will be visiting. No suggestions as it'll be new to me as well. Just plan on cruising around and exploring. I will be riding on the shark.
It should be cool and partly cloudy most of this week, but the riding should be really good. Wait until Wednesday or later to go north of the Golden Gate and you should be rewarded with cool, crisp, clear conditions.
We're planning o going to Alice's for lunch o the way up to the GGB tomorrow (tues) and then hitting a few dealers for poker chips after seeing the bridge. We also have to find a Victory dealer to get a shirt for my brother . I see there's one in SJ so we'll probably hit that one. Shoot me a pm if you'll be around. Wed we'll be doing that loop you posted earlier in the thread. I've got that programmed into the bike's nav unit.
Enjoy the ride today, it will be cool, but should be generally dry all day. I would still dress in layers and wear something that can take a little mist.
Cool and breezy for sure but what a great day. Thanks for that route you sent this morning. EXCELLENT RIDING!!!!!!!!!! Food at Alice's was great also.
It will be warmer today, and your route for today takes you through some sheltered areas.
Enjoy, and watch out as there is a fire burning somewhere in southern Monterey County near the town of Soledad which might have an impact on the route I sent. You have my cell phone number in case you need anything, of course.
A big thanks again. Today's route was a challenging one at times but we'll worth it. That run off of 68 back up to 101 would have been better on a bike with a real suspension but we'll worth the extra effort it took.
Last night here. Gotta have a cookout on the beach.
