Loud Exhaust = Performance ?

Sorry guys... I know im on a roll with questions today. Its just that im on the verge of making my decision and needless to say, want to spend my $$$ wisely AND have an end result that I'm happy with ...

Right now, my bike is bone stock. Zilch, nada.
other that my Windvest shield and a cup hoder .

I want to have a nice looking Black exhaust , increase the engine's performance and lessen the heat ...
But do I need to end up with a loud exhaust ?
The stock Honda Shadow sound it now has is not what I want but neither is a loud Glass-Pack-like exhaust (remember those?) that wakes up my neighbrs each morning as I drive off to work at 6:30 am .
My exhaust needs to be a nice smooth rumble for those long trips my bike was made for...
I want ... no... I need it to perform as well as sound just a few decibels above stock...

Can somebody help me please...
.

Take a look at the Jackpot mufflers from Fuel Moto. They have a nice rumble when you want it, and when cruising, very quiet. They now come in black.

Another "quiet" option is the supertrapp supermeg. I love starting my bike with wide open fishtails at 5am. Not sure about the neighbors but no one has ever said anything.

I have the V&H Power Dual header pipes, and she's very quiet when cruising. The sound only comes up when accelerating.

Like LL Cool K, I have the V&H Power Duals, but I also have the V&H Hi Output slip ons. They are designed more towards upper rpm, but they rumble without being extremely load. Power really kicks in around 3000 rpm. Deep rumble, lots of subsonic vibration, but a nice purr when cruising.

Biggest thing you can do is free up the restrictions in your exhaust. That means get rid of the cat in the head pipes. Either cut it out of the stock units or replace with aftermarkets.

Is she really quiet? You had a v-rod before...

Will, I'll let you know what I think of the 2-1-2 and stock muffler combo tomorrow evening. It will of course be relative based on my version of loud. I do not expect this combo to be loud.

Thanks Rage ! I'll be looking out for uour pm. You're right about versoons of loud. Lets just use the stock exhaust as a guide giving it a 1 in scale of 1-10. And opened headers a rating of 10 ..
