I have been running a K&P reusable filter on my 2009 RG for the past 15K miles. I love it.
You may hear some people tell you to steer clear of them as they don't filter down to 5 micron like the OEM filter does.
The key point to understand is absolute vs nominal filtration....the HD filter claims to filter down to 5 microns nominal which means
it catches 5 microns sometimes....i.e. nominally.....even a chain link fence will filter down to 5 microns nominally.....the only filtration spec that really matters is the absolute filtration and the K&P filters 35 micron absolute which as I understand it is superior to the HD filter.....It flows much better too.....I have no intention of going back to the HD filter.
While we carry both the Arlen Ness and K&P Engineering re-usable oil filters we personally run the K&Ps on both of our in-house bikes for 6+ years and absolutely love them. They really are the "industry leader" when it comes to re-usable oil filters and have conducted years of research on their products to ensure that they.
That being said, we do also have a good number of folks who have purchased the Arlen Ness filters from us over the years and I have yet to hear a single negative comment about overall performance, finish, etc. so I feel as though these would be a good choice as well.
Overall, I personally feel as though you would be happy with either the Arlen Ness or K&P Engineering re-usable filters but it ultimately comes down to your own personal preference in terms of styling, performance goals as well as what your budget is on this sort of purchase.

In my research the KP and the PC filters are the same with the exception of a nut on the end of the PC filter so you don't need any special filter wrench and the KP does not but it comes with the special filter wrench. My only concern would be if you ran that filter and something happened with your engine and Harley wouldn't honor the warranty because you used a Non recommend filter
I have the PC Racing filter. It seems to be a quality filter, easy to clean and has a built in magnet and nut for easy removal. I think I have bought my last filter.
While those that use the cleanable oil filters seem to be happy with them, and I guess that after 10-15 oil changes the initial cost has been amortized?
We travel a lot on the Baggers and being able to just pull into any Harley or Indy shop and have the oil changed when the need arises is important to me...

That is a very valid point. If you are mainly a day rider then it wouldn't be a issue but like Heatwave stated, if you do alot of traveling and occassionaly get oil changes while on the road this could be a real issue. I doubt the dealership is going to want to take the time to clean the filter.
Very happy with my pcracing filter. 10,000 plus miles with this filter.
