i love my DLL but I have got to get another touring seat. I can't handle a 400 mile ground and pound with this seat. Has anyone found a more comfortable seat with possibly the same specs. A seat that sits you back further and also lower? Any suggestions?

How long have you had your seat? Does it have the gel insert or backrest? The reason I ask is that I have been eyeballing getting this exact seat for my '15 RGS, and have read nothing but good things. The gel insert is supposed to make a big difference for longer rides and I've heard that it takes a little while to get the seat to break in.

I am looking at ordering a custom DLL and when I spoke with a rep at La Pera he actually went against going with the gel inserts saying they actually make it stiffer - I'll take his word for it because it would cost more with the gel inserts - so I don't think that's the way to go.

No gel inserts but it does have the backrest. I've had the seat for at least two years and have several miles on it. I am 6' 2" and 270 lbs also. I think I have broke it in quite well with the road time I have on it.

Hmmm, you are about my size (6'3" 255) and now I am a bit concerned about ordering one of these. I'm curious to see if anyone else chimes in with suggestions for a similar seat that puts you in the same position as the DLL.

Bigshaqa, are you running stock handlebars? If so, did you have any issues with the DLL pushing you back too far where you had to reach for the bars (thus causing back/shoulder fatigue)?

6'5"
On my '13 RGC I had 14" apes. Mustang Super Tourer, 2" back 1" down.
On my '16 RGU I put 16" apes. Heated Mustang Super Tourer, 2" back.
It is the widest seat I've found with the features that you are looking for.

Glider Rider, any chance for a part number for the seat on your 13? I can't find one that's 2" back and 1" down on their website. Only 1.75" back, nothing down.

I am running a leather covered DLL with leather backrest and gel inserts, and I just got a DG Airhawk. Neither one make my ass happy on long rides. If the Mustang suits me both of the other seats will be for sale.

I went thru about 8 seats on my glide and here is my .02

I would try sending your OEM seat to meancitycycles and have them shape it for you.
They can work miracles on any seat pan.
I bought a used beat up seat and sent it to them.
Fit was great.

Also bought an $800 C&C seat, (orange/black/gator/ostrich) that seat cost alot but they had cheaper ones. They can move you back and down. Good seat.

Long trips, I ended up buying a russell day-long seat. By far, the most comfortable seat to ride for long trips. Very expensive but worth it. Did not sit you down/back but back and up. Had to tiptoe when stopping. But again, the long rides were nothing after that.

Good luck

I am seriously considering the Russel day-long seat. I am currently riding 2 up on a Harley tall boy seat. What seat did you sent them? I am wondering if I will get the say results by sending in the stock seat vs the tall boy.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

If any of the guys in this thread have a smooth Maverick DLL with backrest, and are looking to get rid of it, please message me. I want to give one a shot. Has to be better than the Harley Reach seat my bike came with!

G Ogre I will take a look at the Russell Daylong then. Thanks for the recommendation.
macabra11 I may just get rid of my smooth DLL with backrest just give me a little time to see which route I wanna go!

I have both the Maverick without backrest and the Outcast solo with backrest both DDL and I love them both. Since I fractured my tailbone a year and 3 months ago both seats only give me 80 miles of traveling time. I've gotten in contact with LePera to do the cyclepedic slot in the seat for me and they can't stop and retool their whole seat manufacturing just for one seat. I told one of the owners that their are tons of folks in my position male and female not only with an injury but also with surgeries but we all want to continue riding with their help. Either way for right now I'm still doing my research on how I can keep my seats and have them modified in order to get some relief maybe copying the relief cut cyclepedic has and or maybe have Danny Grey install the new version of the airhawk r in the seat, I've purchased the Tallboy Cycles mounts so I don't roll in the seat like G Ogre said and change the position of my legs as well. There aren't any seats out there that have been able to give me the leg room and height like the LePera seat and I've tried and bought a bunch of them. I'm open to try one of these Daylong but before I spend again another $600 I'd like to get cyclepedic to modify my seat. Good luck guys and thanks for sharing.

I bought a Corbin Dual Tour (their wide version for Rushmores) used to try out before ordering a custom built one. We did 425 miles yesterday and both the wife and I were happy. So finally a seat we can both agree upon.

On the Corbin , how tall are you? I have the cyclopedic and although I modified to fit, I wouldn't shell out $600 bucks, its just a stock ectraglide seat that the put some gel pads in , and what they call a channel , if your under 6'2" it might be OK , anything over that nope, it sits you higher up ,the way I modified it it sits me back a couple inches , but I'm gonna have to do some more mods to make hiway as in long rides hiway comfortable

Baffled by this post, but not arguing with your findings. But.. do you still have stock rear suspension?
I woud certainly upgrade that, if so.

I did 1,000 miles in a week (yeah I know, not much but that's my biggest test in successive days so far) on my DLL Maverick at the start of the year and it was all-day comfortable. I am personally never replacing it.
No backrest. No gel.

When I asked LePera before ordering mine about the gel, yes, they did say, gel makes it stiffer and takes longer to break in before you feel the results.

I am 6ft 2in and 200lbs. KST Outlaw 10in bars.

My sympathies to the riders with back issues. That will be a severely testing issue with any seat, I should imagine.
