There is a high contrast option available now with the later releases of the Boombox firmware. Press the Info button on your right grip until the screen changes to a high contrast white theme... this does help a bit, but other than that, not that I know of.
When the glare's bad from the sun behind my back, I guess I just don't look at it... I'm more focused on how bad ass my silhouette looks to anyone in front of me... kinda like Clint Eastwood in The Outlaw Josey Wales - insert spaghetti western music here...:grin:
You can also diffuse the glare a fair amount by getting one of those pell and stick screen protectors for a iPad and cut it to fit. Get a rough texture one, not glossy. $10 at Walmart. I'd do both.

I've got something like that now. I also put some on the speedo and tach. It cuts the glare and reflection down but that screen is still a washout if the sun is behind you.
Memory and a good paper map---that's the key Oh and I do use my HD 660 GPS, but my mounting bracket allows for some up-down and left-right adjustments, so can get most of the glare off of it. But, memory is the key Or use a dry erase marker and write your directions on the windshield each day (doesn't hurt the windshield)--works pretty good, just a thought
Use some Kydex and make one. These are photo's of the one I made, I have made several for friends.
Works very well except when the sun is directly over your shoulder.
