These bars were easy to pull wires in compared to the PY OEM's they're replacing. I'll tell ya, I don't know how folks are not installing a new clutch cable and brake line with these bars. I also went out a picked up the screaming Eagle TBW unit and had to extend that as well.
Quality piece of work, Factory 47.

Longer cables lines or wires aren't necessary on the 2015+, but older bikes like yours pictured need extensions for the 14"+ bars. Devil's in the details my friend. >
Not sure, but I would say supply and demand and shipping are factors in the timeframe. Fortunately where I live and when I ordered them they took just over 2 weeks. But they've become one of the most popular bars for the new sharks, so I am sure they're swamped with orders. Silver lining is in central Illinois I am guessing the riding possibilities are limited right now though huh?
LOL yes weather is kinda nuts here, got a couple good rides in in January when it warmed up into the mid 50s but that's a rare thing around here........ I need to move south.
I hope mine come earlier than they said too. Would like to take my time putting them on. Going to be a test of patience for me. But with Donks write up looks pretty straight forward, just need to take time on the wiring.
Hoping my cables work with out changing them out.
I saw one of factory 47 videos showing they unplugged from the control side and pulled through, then the one that has more detail shows the opposite and they de-pin the big connector and pull the wires from the grip end first.
The way they did it with unplugging from the controls and unplugging the throttle sensor seems easier than de-pinning. Has anyone done it that way or is everyone de-pinning.
My bars are hopefully gonna be here first week in March as well. Ordered them January 17th...want to be ready.
I got 16" Malos that I will start the install on this weekend, swapping out 10" monkey bars. When you extended your wires, how much more wire did you need?
I bought the Magnum Shielding lines and wire kit for install. Not sure if I like the wire ext that came with kit, 15" with Molex connectors on both ends.
If they are the kind I got for another bike a couple of years ago, I put some die electric grease on them, then soldiered them together before putting the rubber shrink cover on them. Easy, just takes a dab of soldier.
I'm getting ready to order a set of Malos for my 05. I'm hoping the wait won't be as long for the older bikes. Now, I just need to decide between 12's or 14's.
Have someone help you do some measuring. I took a broom stick held it where I want it to be and did several measurements from the old bars and then figured out which of the malos would hit my sweet spot.
But do it soon because I ordered mine for an older bike 10 days ago and they told me 6 weeks till delivery.
For you guys not wanting to wait so long, look at the Vindikta website and give these guys a shot. I got my bars in a couple of weeks and the workman ship is spot on. They do all their own bars in house then send them out for chroming or powder coating. Very satisfied with mine.
I ordered the 12 inch because they fell right where I want them I will have to pull them back to be inline with the forks but I need a little more pull back and I like my hands a little lower than my shoulders. Every ones riding style is different so best to have some one help ya with the broom measure trick, I looked at a lot of pictures but that really don't help a whole lot because your not sure of what seat they have or just how long their arms are compared to yours.
I'm in the same position, getting ready to order my malos, but I'm really torn between the 14" (had 14" Kst mayhems in my old SG) & the 12" bars. I measured many, many times yesterday while sitting on the bike & while it seemed to keep coming back to the 12" rise, I can't help but wonder if I shouldn't go for 14's since F47 measures to the top of the meathook, so the grips are about 1-1/2" lower than that. My hands used to fall asleep with the kst's but I'm not sure if that was a function of the lack of pullback & that they were made of stainless (softer than CRS) & I was getting a bunch of extra vibration or if it was because my hands were about level with my shoulders.
For reference, the pics on the F47 website shows the grips/controls about level with where the windshield meets the fairing, which after yesterday, seems to be a good portion for me height-wise. I have a pic of me holding my hands at the bottom of my mirrors, approx 3" above the stock grips. However, the pics on F47's site show the 12" bars rolled forward & I have a feeling I'll need to roll them back in line with the forks. So, can you guys with 14's chime in on about where your grips & controls are in relation to the bottom of the windshield if the bars are rolled back in line with the forks? Thanks!
I might just have to break down & pull the stock bars out of the risers & put my mockup PVC bars in there to be sure, but maybe the feedback here will be enough for me to make a decision without taking that step.
Sixpack its hard to tell in your picture, I know you got 14s but do your have them pretty much straight up and down or are they pulled back to be in line with the forks or somewhere in between??? They look awesome on your bike BTW.
Thanks
Your bike looks really good sixpack, I like 14's on the RG's it just "fits".
I'm actually ok with the 12's being higher than where I'm holding my hands in the pic, in fact, I'm kinda hoping they are. I liked the 14" Kst bars on the glide, just didn't like my hands falling asleep!
De-pinning isn't that much work. And you will want to either solder or otherwise secure the green plug, making you virtually unable to install wiring without de-pinning. Would be tight if you could.
Here is a pretty good video on de-pinning process. Starts around 16:00
Yeah I don't think it will be difficult to de-pin, just wondering because I saw both videos, just curious what is easier. Unplugging the small connectors on the controls and the throttle sensor or de-pinning and not unhooking the control wires. Both videos were from factory 47.
That was really what I was wondering. Thanks rock for the reply though, I'm getting antsy waiting for my bars to show up.
After seeing all the screws and all the ways these small plugs go into the controls I think I am going to pull the fairing and de-pin the bigger plugs. Looks simpler to me.
If you go the other way lets hear how it works for you.
I am waiting on bars too.
I have a 12 though might be different on the newer bikes.
I know i saw somewhere on here that that black plug on the TBW is the heated grips. I just de-pinned the big connector going to the TBW sensor, but I tried to de-pin the small black (2 wire) connector but I am not having much luck, thinking about just cutting the end off, saving the plug so if in the future i or someone wants to put heated grips its a simple fix.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but that two wired black connector is not used for anything but the heated grips right.
You're correct, the small black one next to the green one is just for heated grips. I cut mine too.
