Hey guys. A buddy recently bought a set of 13" FMB bars for his 2015 RG. Unfortunately there was a mistake in the order, or a mistake in the build and they didn't drill the relief holes in the bars for the 2015 switch housing locator pins.
I recommended that he just knock off the pins from the switch housings and use the bars instead of wait for an exchange. That also gave him a lot more adjustment play when lining up the switch housings for his personal preferences.
It's too late now, but wonder if any of you experts think that was a mistake?
I'm thinking about doing the same thing. I put on 14' Road 6 customs handlebars, and the place where I have them the most comfortable puts the bottom toggle position just a tad out of reach. Or I could get thumb extensions I guess. I guess my concern is that the switch housing will turn on the handlebar
Just tighten them to spec. They won't spin on you. That pin is only there for quicker assembly purposes at the factory,, so the folks working on the line at HD don't have to waste time trying to line up the controls. Same reason the bars are pinned.
Thanks guys. He was really apprehensive with my suggested "fix" and at the time it just seemed like common sense to me. However, after chewing on it for a bit, I was hoping that I didn't steer him wrong (no put intended )
After removing the pins from my buddy's switch housings to install his bars, all fear was squashed.
So I went home and did mine the same. So much nicer to have all of that adjustment travel when changing the orientation of the housings and control levers.
