Having to make parts kind of sucks!

So my buddy with a triglide also has a sportster for his grown kids to ride when they visit every winter. His kid was down a while back and completely lost the brake rod from a custom forward control setup.

So I go over and look at this girls bike to see what I could do for him. Could not find a makers name on any of it. The brake pedal was rattling all over the place on its shot bushings. The linkage did fit into what appeared to be originally 1/4 inch holes, but these are pretty wallowed out. Looked like a combination of problems of loose brake assembly killing what ever linkage was there before.

Simple fix really and should be pretty bullet proof. Order a chunk of bearing bronze off eBay, cut a couple new bushings to fit on the worn parts. Nice tight fit.

Then I ordered a couple of hiem joints and whipped up a rod for them.

He just left with it. I will get a snap with it assembled.

Here is a couple of shots with it installed, you can see the edge of the bronze bushing on the right side for the brake pedal assembly.

My compliments to you on your fix; a simple fix is dependent on one's skill and knowledge and to which you clearly possess.

Thanks for all the kudos guys.

The Allen head cap screws came from the local Ace hardware store, as did the nylock nuts on the back. The rod is aircraft aluminum. Since both hiem joints are 1/4-28 Right hand thread, the jam nuts are really redundant, but I wanted the threads in the aluminum to be immobile, and they have over a full inch of engagement in the aluminum.

My poor little mini lathe complained a lot. I think I now have my excuse to buy a nicer one, if I can get it by the wife.

BTW I am a journey Toolmaker from years long ago. I cranked my last handle for a living in about 1987.

PS. Ace Hardware has an amazing selection of Chrome fasteners.
