Hey everyone - just traded in an '01 Fat Boy (carb. with a big bore 95 inch kit) for a 2015 Road Glide Special. Love the bike but it doesn't seem to have the same launch power as the Fat Boy....even before the big bore kit was done. Is it because of the throttle by wire or is the 103 detuned a bit compared to the 88? This is my first throttle by wire bike so i'm just trying to figure it out. Thanks everyone.

I am no engine or performance expert, but I think the couple hundred more pounds that the RGS weighs compared to the fat boy is the biggest contributor.
Put a Stage 1 and tuner on it. You will be surprised at how much the driveability will change just by doing that. Going from a bike with cables to a TBW bike was definately a different feel. I adjusted the throttle on mine with the FP3 and it does get even better. Good luck!
Yah - even with the added weight, there is certainly a noticeable difference in the off-the-line-grunt with the RGS. Just doesn't have the same Go power as I had with the 88ci, so wasn't sure if that was an effect of the TBW or some engine mod that is needed. I'll look into the Stage 1.
Thanks for the replies!
My 2001 Rg with a 95 inch big bore,SE 211 cams with head work would with out a doubt kick the crap out of my 2012 stock 103,since installing a Thunderheader, cams and air cleaner my 103 is much better but still not as strong as my 01 was.
Don't forget, the RG gearing is quite a bit taller in first gear than the old FatBooy. It really takes a lot to make it launch off the line. I bet you find there is ample power when you need it going down the road.
IMO cams will wake that shark up, it sure did on mine as well as getting rid of a stock exhaust and intake if you have them, these bikes run real lean out of the factory, nothing a good tuner cant fix, this is where the fun starts.
