So my charging system just went out on me. Not sure if it was the regulator or the stator, but I'm just going to replace the whole system. I have heard good things about cycle electrics, but I have also heard to stay OEM. I would appreciate some input on what system to use. THANKS

What year is the bike? It is easy to check the voltage regulator and many videos on Youtube. It's easy with the volt meter with the ohm meter. I just did this for a friend of mine. The first test is with a fully charged battery, take a voltage check, then crank the bike and do another one. It should read around 14.4 or so volts idled up to 2000 rpms. If it doesn't change, next is the volt meter test. I can tell you if your test on the battery didn't change, pull the leads from the stator from the regulator and do a ohm test. You should get the same reading from each of the leads testing to the other lead on all three ways. I don't remember the ohm reading but it has it on the youtube video. If that is correct, change out the regulator. Also, a loose ground on the frame will also cause the regulator not to operate.

agree with smarty , an easy test to do , odds are stator , 11's and twelves had stator issues , I had two go out on mine , easiest to replace whats broke , unless you just want to throw more money at it for no reason .. If it aint broke , dont fix it ..

It seems that the Voltage regulator has been a issue with the bikes since the 2012 models came out, there was a recall on the 2012 models for voltage regulator problems.
A simple test to see if the stator went bad is to open the derby cover and if you smell burnt wires then the stator is shot.
Since the charging system output can vary some the 14.4 isn't written in stone, the stator (alternator) puts out 16 - 23 Volts AC and the Voltage regulator 14.3 to 14.7 volts @ 3600 rpm.
On my 08 I only get 14.1 volts but it still has the original voltage regulator which is getting a little tired, the stator was replaced twice and I just put in a new stator 2000 miles ago.
I use HD parts and they work just fine IMO.
