I've seen firsthand, my Big Mile / Big # Buds go through Nightmares with Aftermarket Primary Components!! for me (CVO Hydraulic Clutch ~ no Adjustment) the OE stuff has no PMS and has been very durable...
"The Short Bus" at 56k miles; The #s aren't quite there with yours, but close enough...
The latest SE Compensator with Rushmore Outer Primary Cover w/ Deflector (OE was changed at >30k while chasing another noise,, probably didn't need it ?).
The Original Auto Adjuster, Chain, Clutch and everything else except the Alto Carbonite Plate Kit, SE HD Spring & AIM VP-95...
Running Factory Recommended Amounts of Formula+ or (just switched to) Redline Primary Case Fluid... Not a fan of ATF!!! or much less than Factory Recommended Amounts of Fluid to get an Aftermarket Clutch to Work Properly!!!
Upon inspections or other forays into the Primary, the Auto Adjuster / Chain remains perfectly adjusted within specs, minimal wear, looks like it's going to last a long time, in fact everything looks / acts fine,,, a "MotorCop would love it Clutch", No Slip, even on the Dyno, No Clunk, Smooth Shifting, As quiet / quieter than anything else...
My "secret" is; No Engine Braking until the Primary is up to Operating Temp (Chain Shrink) and Rev-Matching on Downshifts... Yes, I do Engine Brake in concert with the Brakes (especially in the Twisties) but, only after Operating Temp...
Oh Yeah,,, Even though "The Short Bus" produces 120 ft/lbs at 2200, the only time I Operate that low is in 1st & 2nd,,, in the upper gears I Cruise around 2500+, in top gear, a little more than that...
This might not be a fair comparison as I have not personally run a Solid Sprocket (My Disclaimer LOL) but I have seen a close friend of mine run a Solid Sprocket along with an Aftermarket Clutch... In 50k miles, his S&S Crank is holding up fine,,, BUT,,, he has "welded" the (Clutch) Rod 2x, and gone through 3 Transmissions... Just something to think about... 'Thinking that HD put the Compensator and Cush Drive Hub in there for a reason?? Also thinking that HD went to the A&S Clutch to protect the Crank (and other Components) against Overly Aggressive Downshifting??
