Big bore or not?

Dropped off my RGU at my mechanic the other day for exhaust, cams, lifters and pushrods. Have some compensator noise and a base gasket that has a tad bit of leakage. Since my ESP will be covering labor, the shop asked me if I wanted to go with an S&S 110 kit. Any thoughts on the 110 kit? Thanks in advance.

For me? It'd be a no brainer. The only reason, imo, not too....would be if you are PERFECTLY satisfied with your current level of hp....but since you're already doing performance upgrades, obviously you want more. So yeah, you NEED to do it. You'll regret it if you don't.

They are only covering the labor so you still have to pay for the 110 kit, and then you will have hidden cost like dyno tune and a EFI tuner if you don't already have one. I don't think that there is much more of an advantage going from a 103 to a 110 when it comes to basic riding. It's your money so do what makes you happy.

I did the 103 to 110 conversion as part of the deal when I bought my 2012. I did ride the bike for about 300 miles before the parts got it. For me, it was a night and day change.

I had been riding a Kawi VN2000 (125") v-twin before the Road Glide, so the drop from 125" to 103" was extremely noticeable.

Picking up the additional 7 cubes made a big difference to me. Then a few years later I upgraded the cams and that made an even bigger difference.

It still needs a full dyno tune, but I am getting 113/123 out of it as it sits (canned map). There's probably a few hidden horses in there to be tapped with a good tune though.

I would go with the upgrade. I doubt you will regret it.

I had a full top end engine overhaul at 900 miles when I bought my 2012 Roadie. 2 weeks after purchase and just under 1K miles I had the cam plate bolt walk out, barely caused any internal damage but dealer said to replace top end to make sure. I opened the Screaming Eagle parts catalogue and went to town! I only had to pay the difference if parts were more money than OEM replacement. Was a blessing in disguise, got a good bump in power for basically no money outta my pocket, sucked having my bike down for nearly 2 weeks once after I bought it but came out on top after. So go ahead and do it! You'll be pleased you did and have no regrets!
