I have the Doran TPMS. Had it on my Voyager. Will move it to the RGU when I do the first tire change and put metal valve stems on the wheels.
The monitor wires directly into the bike. Also comes with a wired light that you can place in a more conspicuous place on the bike to get your attention.
I miss having TPMS. I picked up a screw in my front tire when I had the RT, and the TPMS let me know. Pulled over, plugged the tire, and went on my way. I'll have to look into these systems.
Got them installed today. App was easy to download and the sending units have a locking nut to prevent them from coming off. Sinked up with the iPhone and Immediately I needed air in the front and rear tire. Adjusted air pressure, and the app picked it up immediately. I programed the alarm. It has a low pressure and high pressure alarm. Will check on the trip if it works like it says. Should interrupt the music play when an alarm goes off. Yup, I like it.
I've wasted money on a lot of less useful upgrades so I'll be watching for an update myself. I also have the 90 degree stems so I'm glad to see the above post that says there's no issue with them.
Just a side note to this. I have a new Garmin 590lm and it has the app for TPMS. Garmin set runs $79. You can set alarm for pressure and see how much your pressures change while riding right on the GPS. Just FYI if you have Garmin. They work great.
I was super interested after reading this. One review on Amazon got me a little worried. This is what he said, thought?: "So yesterday I was on a road trip to southern UT and my rear tire went completely flat, in the middle of nowhere!! Guess why?? The Fobo sensor on my Vstrom caused the valve stem to have a slight tear in it and go flat. Even though it weighs approx .25 OZ, while a motorcycle is going down the road at 80MPH, the centrifugal force is very stressful on a valve stem. If you have a metal valve stem, yes it would probably work great! There needs to be a warning not to use on motorcycles with rubber valve stems!!!!!!!!!! I got really lucky and found a guy with a truck and trailer in the next town, convinced him to help me load and haul the bike 25 miles away, then had to pay him, plus a repair shop to fix it. All in all, I paid $75 ( EXTREMELY FORTUNATE) and lost several hours of ride time. I was also fortunate not to wreck the bike with a flat in the twisties, or get run over by a passing vehicle while parked on the side of the road. People sometimes get killed because of flats!!! DON'T BE A FOOL AND BUY THIS WITHOUT METAL STEMS!!!! Other than the problem with rubber stems, it pairs and works as promised- but can't overlook this issue!!!!!!"
Maybe it was a different brand that I was reading up on but I thought it did say to use with metal valve stems. That would seem logical anyway you would think but I know some don't think that way.
One other thing that I just thought of while reading some of the reviews. One reviewer replied to this users comment stating that you should be able to use rubber valve stems and another stated that he in fact is using this with rubber valve stems with no issues on his Harley. Here's the thing... we don't know what kind of rubber valve stems this reviewer was using and they may in fact been much longer and even been the 45 degree angle type. Plus it is recommended that you replace your rubber valve stems at every tire change which most people DON'T do so his could have already been degrading. I would still use metal stems and as long as this product works like it's supposed to I'm not at all worried about this guys review. JMO
I know others that have used these and have stated use metal valve stems.
With the centrifugal force it makes sense.
Keep us posted on how these work out.
Yes before I purchased a set I did a little research on the FOBO system and I did read a little chatter about guys having issues with rubber valve stems and 90 degree angle stems as well. As mentioned above it could've old valve stems etc. ?? Other guys are running them with rubber stems and love em so I didn't take any chances.... I just ordered a set of metal valve stems for piece of mind.
Well, yesterday I rode about 600 miles to Terlinqua and the Foto air pressure units worked flawless. While having the music playing thru the info system, if it would have alarmed, it would interrupt the music and make the programmed alarm. At each gas stop, when I would enter my fuel and mileage on my app, I checked the Foto and you could see air pressure gained by heat. Also for those concerned about rubber valve stems, I put new ones in each time I change tires. I use the shorty version with the chrome metal cover. Also at .25 oz's it's probably just a little heavier than my chrome steel air stem caps. So far I think it does what was promised.
Those do look advantageous to units like my Doran which takes up space on the bike itself.
The negative I see is that I would have to move all my music to the phone and use that as my sole source of music if I want to be alerted to a low pressure situation.
Nice that there are options out there and that companies are taking advantage of the smart phone technology.
These have been floating around and seem to work really. I am curious why Harley cant flash our Infotainments to utilize the ones in the CVO's. I have found the part number ( 32700052) which can be had for about $73 a piece. How long until we get this on non-CVO bikes?
I just installed a set of Fobos last week. Like someone else said, I hate taking off the saddle bad and laying on the ground to check the rear tire pressure. Therefor I never did it enough. Now just check the phone before I head off on a ride.
Just got back from Eureka Springs BBQ and the Fobo worked flawlessly. It was nice to wake up, have breakfast, and go out to the bike and check the phone for tire pressure while putting the gloves and helmet on. I really like this to use on the road and not worry about the tires.
I just installed mine half hour ago. Took about 4-5 attempts to get one of them to be recognized but it's working now. Definitely a plus, although having to remove them in order to put in air will be a bit of a pain. Worth the hassle though
