Well the MOCO did not want us to know the new models for 2013 until the end of August! Well easyrider published the 2013 CVO's in the October issue that I recieved last week! Woops! Face out!

The slipper clutch is a big, big deal. All I can say is... 'bout damn time. I want the new LED headlights too. Nice to see there will be no fairing redesign as was rumored, that means the new lights should be plug and play. Fingers crossed....

I don't really see a problem with the hydraulic clutch on the CVO and ultra, but I guess I'll take your word for it. My friction zone is huge, and it hold the torque fine. I'll be genuinely impressed if they improved on it.

Road King - I like how it looks. Speakers in the lowers and adjustable windshield. And you can remove the windshield for that classic RK look. Sweet

Breakout looks cool as well. I like it.

So again, first impression on the color combo, I like it. But the graphics (those eye lashes) for the RGC CVO, not impressed... maybe they will look better on the flesh, but not feeling it right now from the photos.

  • LED headlights - Not sold on how effective those are... and with an MSRP of around 699.00... I will stick with my PIAA or move to HID (for 49.00) when the PIAA burn out.
  • Speakers on the saddlebag lids - cool. I am doing that to mine, just need to get the lids painted already (was not aware they could be ordered painted from the MOCO, duh!).
  • Hidden antenna. Great. Did that to mine as well...
  • Assist and slip clutch. Great to see this introduced in our bikes. It is about time. I wonder if this can be retrofitted?
  • Would love to see if they made changes to the dash and the electronics there...

I hope the slipper clutch can be retrofitted. I upgraded to one on my turbo V-R0d, and it was one of the best mods I've ever done. And because it also grips tighter at higher rpms, I can run it with the stock springs so it has a nice soft lever pull and can handle the increased hp without slipping.

If it is offered, my bike will get one immediately.

That greenish gold/tan RG is certainly ugly. Stripes are a little funny on them
It will probably grow on us and become a favorite.

I cant wait to see the Anniversary CVO RGC though. hopefully a better paint scheme and colors like the CVO Road King or EG Ultra shown in these pics.

The EG and RK are the anniversary CVO edition,.. notice the tank badge.

So nothing spectacular about the anniversary paint IMO, but its a million times better then the Duracell's of 105th.

That came off way more argumentative than I intended. I always thought that rev matching was important since I had the V-Rod, so I though everyone did it. It's just become second nature for me, so I don't get any wheel spin. I do it in my Camaro, too, and I've gotten to the point where the clutch doesn't really even have to do any work any more in either ride. I'd rather do it myself than have the bike tell me how to ride anyway. It's just something else to break IMO. Sorry for coming off argumentative.
I've heard that in a panic stop situation (with ABS - standard on CVOs and FLTRUs), that you shouldn't downshift because it will confuse the computer...you just pull in the clutch and mash the brakes. Anyone validate that?

#55 ·
Yes, I always rev-match when I downshift (old habit from riding sportbikes), but in some cases you don't have the time to do so, or you inadvertently drop down one more gear than you intended to...

A slipper should be mandatory on every bike IMO. Just a great safety feature to assist during an "oh shit" moment :D

Confused?

Maybe I don't understand the slip clutch but, I always thought the ability to not skid the back wheel on a downshift was a rider skill thing? So Harley is now making bikes for people who don't know how to ride a bike? I grew up riding dirt bikes. Fast down shifts are part of racing and wheel slid in the dirt happens often. When i ride my street bike I guess I unconsciously do "rev matching" never heard that term. One of the things that worried me when I got me bike with ABS is not being able to do a fast down shift emergency stop. Hard for me to explain but like the dirt bike I am braking and down shifiting letting the clutch out after each down shift to let the engine do some of the braking. This is a habit I had to break with abs. you just got to stand on it. I am not sure I understand the need for this new feature but I am open minded and will have to see how it works before the jury votes.

Once on a poker run I got behind a guy on a new dyna, temp. tags, new leather jacket and chaps. This guy skidded the tire on every down shift! Everytime we approached a curve he did it and sometime in a turn! I finally pulled off and got away for the dumdass before he layed it down!

Maybe I am just a riding snob? I have ridden bikes since 6 and had a clutch since 12 so I don't have these problems harley is trying to correct!

Face out!

I agree with you Face about the Slip clutch. The moco is accomodating for those that dont know what they are doing. Of course I dont mind any technological advances though.

It's not about rider skill in this case. That's like saying no bike should have ABS or Traction Control. Both are aides to help save you, but not a replacement for riding skill.

In a panic situation, a slipper can help out a lot. In every day riding it's just a nice feature to have.

Sort of like how a microwave isn't a NECESSITY since you already have a regular oven, but it IS a convenient thing to have that just makes your life a little bit easier. But still not a replacement for knowing how to properly cook a meal with a regular oven.

Once you've owned a bike with a slipper, you don't ever want to go back.

Can you imagine MOCO's phone call to ER's staff last night after seeing the current ER mag, immediately lunching into
"This is Harley...you know, MOCO! What the f*@K are you doing releasing that magazine soo early? You...you promised to wait until we rolled our carefully orchestrated introductions! We'll never advertise in your rag again...you b@st@rds!!!"

Person* at ER answering phone :Ah...no speaka englosh goot" Hairy not here. AH...needer is MOFO. Bye bye".

* That was the cleaning person as the staff at ER left office early to go out partying big-time.

Anyone have another idea of how that first phone call went?

Slipper clutch technology is nothing new, in fact, as usual, it's taken Harley 20 years to catch up with what everyone else is doing. Slipper clutches were born from racing bikes, and it allows the rider just an extra edge while downshifting in race conditions, to keep the bikes from getting squirrely.

It's just a great safety factor that's been incorporated across the board by the vast majority of motorcycle makers, it's seamless, it just does it's thing. You just ride as normal, and if you know how to properly rev match, you'll never even know it's there. It's when those surprise situations where the pucker factor is involved, and you're concentrating on other things (like accident avoidance), it'll make sure there's no wheel hop involved.

Like I've said before, I installed one on my other bike, and it's a great addition.

I love that headlight!!!! Although it really isn't that revolutionary as they are the same as the LED lights for the batwings, they just made a bezel to house two of them together and made it a self contained unit. It is a must purchase for me though, I do do a lot of riding at night...:D:cool:

I'm in the minority here.
i like the new paint judged by the pics.
They always look better in person to me.

I want those headlights though.

Black Betty is safe for another model year looks like.
Beside, I've got a 117 engine project to finish.
