Just curious what all was needed to get the HD apes on a new road glide. What, if anything, needs extended, clutch/ brake lines, wire harness extension, ect.
I have 14" Yaffe Monkeys on order since 15 Aug.... So I can't say for sure yet.... The pin can be removed easily... I am running 12" KST Outlaws in the meantime. If they are HD bars, I am sure they designed them to work with all relief cuts...
There is a Factory 47 video SHOWING you don't need ANYTHING up to 14"... but that is with THEIR BARS... I am going to give it a shot with my Monkeys when they come in....
I am 'pretty sure', you will need wire extensions and upper brake line /clutch line for 15" bars.... You dealer should have a required breakdown of parts needed...

You're going to need upper brake line, clutch line and wiring extensions. Just under $300 from Harley for the 3. If you get the harley bars I would assume they are slotted for the pins in the controls and the riser clamp. At least my harley chizeled bars were. I sat on a bike with the fat apes. VERY comfy! Also, not sure how harley measures their bars, but my chizeled bars which they call a 14, I would consider a 16" bar.

My dealer had installed them on a bike the day I taken delivery if my mine. They were 16" chrome. Felt pretty good on position and grip but not very attractive. They quoted me $1500 installed when I asked. Too high of a price if you ask me.
This is utterly crazy to me. Someone I know test rode a used Road King at a local HD, they quoted him $1800. I told him I'd do it for $1000. But I'd actually do it for beer.
Seems Like I should open a local HD accessory install business and call it 50%. Buy you accessories and I'll install THE FOR 50% of what the Stealership charges.
I don't know if you're 100% sold on the HD bars but Road6 Customs have real nice 13in Standard Apes for the 15-16 Road Glides. You keep stock wiring & hoses, you need to pull the pin in the clamps and snap off the pins in the brake master clamps. Real easy to install and only $200, black powder coat or raw steel.
I went with the HD Tall Boys, but got my parts from PC Pain, a member on this site. I did not use a dealer for the install and I will mention one thing.
When we were done getting everything together, I found that when I turned on the cruse control, the light came on but would not engage. We found that the new HD wire extension had two wires crossed at one end of the plug. When we swapped the wires on the new extension plug, everything was good to go. If you go this route, you might want to check the wiring on the extension to ensure the wires match up when you get everything plugged in.
When I was in for warranty work, there was a RG on the floor with these mounted, They look huge, but they way they curve down, my hands are under shoulder height (for me anyway). I can say that these are exactly what I'm looking for bar position wise, so I will say in the near future I will be installing a set
I'm running the 14" Malo bars, Factory 47 said you don't need to use extensions. I went ahead and got magnum shielding brake and clutch lines +2" longer and it worked out perfectly. the stock lengths would have worked it ust would not have looked right
I just installed a set of the Harley 15" Fat Apes on my 2015 RG. I've only seen pictures and haven't got to ride it yet, since I'm out of town working. I really like the style and look they give and can't wait to get behind them.
From what I've been reading, everyone that has them seems to like them a lot. Like I said, I haven't gotten to ride mine yet but my buddy told me he really likes the way they feel and look. I would order all new lines, plus a harness extension and I believe you will need upper and lower brake lines.
The HD Tallboy bars don't require new wiring or cables, but the HD apes do. I just got done with a set of Tallboy bars and they were at the limit of stock cables and wiring.
I can confirm this. Tall Boys are super comfortable and easy to install. For sure they are the limit of the factory wire and cables. I had to cut some zip ties and pop the wires out of the bracket. 100% worth it.
Ugggggh! Getting antsy, I bought the apes on eBay on 4/30, they just shipped them today. I was hoping to get them on this weekend, but it looks like I won't have them until Monday. My wire extensions from Boardtracker will be here Friday.
