Why is it the Newer bikes only top out at about 103 MPH ? I Got a couple of Buddy's that have been ridin since a year before God started riding !!! one has a 09 street Glide the other 2011 electra glide and they cant get over 103 mph and my new 15 Road Glide struggles to get that fast ! The Old 96 bagger I had with a stock evo had no issue getting to 115. We have been told by Dealers that the bikes just push to much air and cant get over 100mph, I call bullshit, these bikes have plenty of power. Anyone know if they are just computer controlled and are limited to just 100 or so ?
When my 2010 was a 96ci 110 was about tops, I have a 103 now that I haven't topped out, but it's definitely faster than the 96, I'll add that top speed was done in 5th gear, not 6th.
My '11 RGU 103 will run 108 even with my lard ass on it. Maybe a little more I didn't hold it at 108 long but it felt about done. I don't like to ride that fast though cause it musses my hair!:surprise::grin:
Bone stock mine went 105. After cams pipes intake programmer and heads. Can bury the speedometer at 120 in 5th. Sill have 6th. It's a 13 road glide with 101Hp 112 Tq
Stock, mine would do over a hundred. With the Stage 1, it'll do well over what it did do. I suppose I could hook up the Garmin to see where it maxes out.
my 2011 RGC with the 103 with slipons was maxed at 100mph give or take, my 13 cvo with some Tman goodies...will peg the speedo and then some even 2 up. your going to have to spend some cash if you want more speed...:surprise:
Oh the words of wisdom from Iron Mark. Hopefully not the words of experience. However seeing as my current attitude has been fortified by "Makers Mark", this is what I must declare. My old 95 is fast enough to have my licence to work and ride expunged forever. I have rode some of the new 103 motors. They definitely get up to such speeds faster than the 95. But without saying exactly, I can declare that the old 95 can absolutely step out and over a ton any day.
Had an 05 103 SE ultra stage 1 with custom throttle body by Williams. 120 and the bike got squirly as all get out still had about 1/4 throttle red line had been bumped to 7000. Not sure how fast it could go,but 100 plus on a batwing is stupid fast....got about 20 mpg at that speed.
Interesting on the Speeds, we ran across the Arizona dessert both the street glide and Electra Bagger pooped out at 103mph, my wide glide left them in the dust buried the speedo...But just wondering if there is a shut down on some models ? No way they should of gave up that fast. We did 5th gear and 6th Gear runs, no go 100 - 103 all they had !!!

Probably doesn't have any type of limiter on it. The American, street legal "gentlemen's agreement" followed by most manufacturers, although there are a few exceptions, is 186 mph. HD isn't in any danger of eclipsing that.
My 04 with a stock 88 motor will do 105, feels like it's gonna come apart at that speed but it will do it. Usually ride 75 all day long on the freeway. I like the back roads much better though now.
FWIW, I just got back from the Long Beach motorcycle swap meet and I hit 110 (indicated) twice on my stage 1 06 88" Road Glide.
And there was more in her.
Never had that problem traveling from the bay area to LA once a month on mine. Buried my spedo several times on highway 5 though the valley and I'd set my cruise control at 105 mph while other cars were.still passing me by.
Thunderheader, TTS Master tuner, SE air cleaner, stock heads & motor, tuned by Cycle Doctor in so cal. This was all before installing Woods 777 cams, with these cams I'm breaking 103 mph in 5th gear with throttle still left.
