Getting ready to try some lowers out to see if i can cut down on some of this wind that's coming up from and around the tank. Already have the mud flaps on the engine bar as well as the GDS piece mounted to the triple tree but still getting a good bit of turbulence coming up. I'm just trying to decide if I should just spend 90 on some soft lowers or get the matuzo brand OE style for 170ish? Never ran any type of lowers before. Suggestions?
I had soft lowers on my 96 flh 80ci & loved them but you cannot use them above 60 degrees or the engine will over heat. Don't know if that's still the case with the new engines.
I plan on getting soft lovers for my 2015 FLTXR. I personally only like the lowers on during cold weather & they are easy to take on & off. I would just store them in saddle bag.
I just got some from eBay. They weren't perfect but definitely worth $68 to me. I made some straps to attach the bottom of the fairing and used stainless steel bolts. I had to trim them for the fairing support. Good deal for $68 plus free shipping.
Take a look at Desert Dawgs soft lowers. They do not have a temperature restriction. I don't run them in the summer unless it's raining, but I could. They cost a little more than others, but are nice.
Get the hard lowers! If you get the soft lowers you can only run them when it is below 60 degrees according to the MOCO.
I used both and the lowers are the best mod when it comes to wind management. You will like the lowers so much you won't want to take them off and that takes the soft lowers out of the equation when it is over 60 degrees.
Don't waste the money on soft lowers put that money into the hard lowers for your best results.
I had never used OE lowers until I got some for my current bike. I did have the soft lowers when I lived in the colder north. I am very happy with my OE lowers that I have and do not plan on taking them off for any reason.
Get the vented fairing lowers if you can. If your bike is 2010 and later then the vented fairing lowers will fit just fine except that the 2009 and earlier vented fairing lowers were only made for the batwing bikes and you would need to trim the fairing cap to clear the upper fairing support bracket.
If you get the 2010 and later vented fairing lowers no trimming is needed they will fit just fine on a 2010 and later Road Glide.
If your bike is a 2009 and earlier model then you would need to raise the upper fairing with the 2010 fairing brackets in order to put on the vented fairing lowers no matter what year the lower were made.
Yes, the vented lowers for 2009-2013 batwings will fit, you just have to trim about 2 inches off the stem that covers the top of the engine guard on the cap. That way they will clear the fairing supports on the '15 RG
I bought the factory lowers from PcPain in Texas. Not cheap, but cheaper than any of the dealers in my area. I was out the other day, the temp was 37 degrees and I had my heated jacket liner and heated gloves on. My knees were the only thing that got a little cold. I ride with my upper vent open to reduce turbulence (2015 R.G.). I also wear a full face helmet. I didn't notice a huge difference in the turbulence after I installed the lowers. I do most of my riding on the highway at or above 70 mph. The factory lowers look right at home on the bike. It's a nice addition. Install tip: Put the entire lower together before the install excluding the top cap then clamp it on the bars.
