Too Hot To Ride?

We are officially in a heat wave here in Nebraska. It's been around 100° the last couple of days here, with heat indexes at around 114-116, and horrible humidity.
Most of us here are used to humid summers but this is ridiculous to the point where cars aren't working right. Say what you will, but it's too damn hot for me to ride right now.

I know how you feel. Here in New Jersey we were in the high 90s with high humidity today with a forecast that looks even worse for the next 4 days. I went out the other evening because it was only 85. I thought about riding this weekend but I just don't want to deal with the heat, especially if I get caught in traffic.
I hope you folks get a break out there.

Today here in Santa Clarita CA it was 111.
Two weeks ago it was 114.
I don't like it and these bikes hate it as well.
I like the early mornings and evenings in the summer but unless I'm in the ocean, on a lake or in my pool, it sucks.

Just be thankful you are not in the southeast! Rode 400 miles Thursday from the gulf coast and almost couldn't get off the bike because my mesh riding pants were melted to the seat! LOL! Now that is hot!

I was wearing one of those neck wraps that you soak in water and tie around your neck. As the water evaporates you get cooled, but the humidity was so high it absorbed moisture and almost strangled me!

Night rides work for me, been in the 100s up here all week and the forecast is hot and humid with no rain for the next ten days. Grass and gardens are hurting and I've had more midnight runs this month than I have in the past few years put together. Traveled 4 hours this evening and it was still way too hot.

Seeing how I'm spending eternity in HELL, I don't ever recall seeing a forecast ever being that HOT! Here in the North East get something called "winter" and in Western N.Y. that means a solid 6 months of crappy weather and just because spring and summer come around doesn't mean it's always sunny and warm.

hey Taccone, hit me up via pm and we can take care of that eternity thing! In the mid-western state of Michigan we're familiar with the "winter" thing as well, and after the past 2, I'm just laughing at all the ladies complaining about a little heat. C'mon guys, change your tampons, grab some throttle and blast away! the faster you ride the cooler it gets! (Ignore the chart and just repeat the Stark Motto "Winter's Coming!") I'm diggin' the heat 'cause I know what's coming in a couple of months!

Although not as hot as you, here in CT it's been in the upper 90's with oppressive humidity levels. According to our local weather guessers it's supposed to be getting hotter for the next week. They're saying a week long heatwave. With me working in the non-air conditioned shop for 60hrs a week my bike will be staying in the garage because I want my 10 min commute to be air conditioned

I am on Long Island New York and it sucks as well I am also not a summer person to begin with. It's not so much the temp itself but the darn humidity is what's killer. I usually will ride at any point in time but the past week or so I have been waiting for night time. The other night it was 63 degrees here and 90 during the day I ended up putting on a jacket when I got down by the bay.

Ewe peeps in New England gettin' cranky , welcome to every summer in the south , we have been pushing 100 with heat indexes on up close to 110 , anything outside here best be done before 0900 , 1000 at the latest , and after 1700 in the evening .. It's not too hot to ride , but my issue is , I ride to work at night when it is only 90 or so , and I have three skid lids , a modular for the cold or extreme nasty weather , a half for the cookers and riding around town , and a 3/4 for the rest of the time .. We have these pop up thunderstorms every day , they come out of nowhere and last for a few minutes .. Well Thursday I left the house around midnight with the half on , and that afternoon when I left work I got nailed by a five minute deluge out of nowhere , it happened as soon as I got on the interstate , so I immediately got off and took the back way home , it's about 20 miles either route .. Only problem was I had taken my quarter length face shield off the lid and forgot to put in the tourpak , when I left for werk ... quarter sized rain drops from hell dont feel real good on the eyes ..... Time I got home , my clothes were almost dry , something told me to put my anti rain suit on before I left werk ..

.... And that''s why I switched from the beanie to the Bell Pit Boss. Comfortable half sized shell with a flip down visor for those occasional mid-west thunder bumpers. Give it a try. For $129.00 it's cheap enough to try out. If you don't like it you can always list it here!

It's been like that here in south Florida. I ride in the mornings, as the thunderstorms roll in during the afternoons.

I don't want to sound like a whiner, but I just can't handle the humidity like I used to. I've got a 2016 Ford Explorer that is for work use only (company owned) and it was parked in the parking lot for about an hour and a half yesterday afternoon. When I came out to it, the display on the stereo was gone as was the stereo. After parking it in the shade and running the ac for about 45 minutes, it started working again. I'm also seeing cars and trucks sitting all over the side of the interstate with blown out tires. Like I said, it gets hot and humid here every year, but this is down right ridiculous. But sure enough, those brutal midwest winters are just around the corner.

Global Warming

Im happy the MOCO put AC on 2016 it helps with the hot temps. Like turning on a fan. And compared to riding my 02 with non vented lowers (what were they thinking back then) this is a COOL machine. I installed the air conditioned seat (I don't want my jeans melting to the seat lol)(the choking was hilarious a true lol) beads that is, the air just flows. Like the song the "the wind below my beep".
Heading out for a ride soon. Yes its hot (40); but its darn cold other times during the year here in Canada (Celsius country).

You folks coming North for the SW, don't get scared off by the 30 degree temperatures, there won't be any snow to worry about.

Rather be hot and be able to ride than cold and snowing and not riding at all.
Just find some back roads with no many stops and let wind do the rest.
Personally like the heat and long summers, one day will move further south.

Yep - normally I enjoy the wind in my face but at these temps it's just 110 degree air blowing on you. My understanding is when you're riding the air dries your perspiration which inhibits the body's ability to cool itself. Make sure to stay hydrated - I don't have a drink holder but need to get one.

Here in Florida it's always hot and humid in the summer. I've got a 35 mile commute each way to work. As long as the chance of afternoon thunderstorms is 30% or lower I'll ride. It's worth it to burn up on the ride home to have the beautiful morning ride in. A long sleeve white HD shirt keeps some of the heat down.

I came across a graph awhile back that showed what the temp was at certain mph. It was interesting in the fact that the higher the ambient temperature, the hotter it got at certain mph. Of course, the lower the ambient temp, the colder it was while moving. I'll see if I can find it & post it.

If your not like 'in this weather don't move to Oklahoma. This is about as good as it gets in July and August here. Yes it's hot, but you get used to it. I'm originally from the desert in So Cal and it was hot there also. At least the humidity is bearable here. Forget riding at night here, bugs are so thick you'll think you're in a rain storm.

Did about 150 miles today - Hot as Satan's Anus but still fun as we have Winter here so when it is Feb and -5 outside and I am throwing snow, I'll wish it was 95, Humid and I was riding

The Roadie breathes better than the Dyna so even wit the Faring, it is cooler that those Porker Pipe Mufflers throwing heat on my right leg

I don't mind it all that much.......just have to avoid traffic more than usual and try to keep moving

The wife and I just took a 300 mile romp around the county side here in Central Florida with the weather at 96. Got a bit hot towards the end of the run, but overall it wasn't too bad.

For the most part it was an easy run with the cruise on, and I only had to go over 2,600 RPMs once coming out of Beverly hills to get around some puddle jumpers before we got to the two lane.

After that, straight to the pool..
