Took bike in for a stage 1 upgrade. VandH power duals ventilator intake. So they do not sale the race tuner so I had to go with the street tuner. I asked about g0ing with an aftermarket tuner and he said no it will void the warranty. Ok so i get the bike back and it has a bad vibration 2500 to 2800 RPM. I take it back and he says the power duals are rubbing and we will fix it. Next day get the bike back and still have a vibration. Call the next morning and he tells me they will pick the bike up and fix it. Bring the bike back today and still has the vibration. They say it is the tuner. They can not add enough fuel at that RPM range to tune the vibration out. So now i have a 30000 dollar bike with a virbration that can not be fixes evidently. What should i do now? Live with it ? Raise hell till they fix it or what else. I forgot he told me today i could put a Power Vision on it and get it retuned and the warranty would be ok. If they would of told me that from the beggining it would not have the shitty tuner it has on it now!!! I wanted to go with the Power Vision anyway. I am pretty much at a loss for what to do now. I like the dealership and the people. I dont want to burn bridges but I think i am intitled to a fix.
If it were me, and since they were adamant that you HAD to have the Street Tuner originally to maintain the warranty, I'd have to ask him "What changed" ?
I'd then ask that they give you a refund for the tuner & tuning sessions...or at least give you a substantial break for service costs, etc. It never hurts to ask.... JMHO
That's why I do all my own maintenance and modifications...there's no reason why you can't do your own Stage I (or even II) yourself...it's really not that difficult. You don't need a full Dyno tune for a typical Stage I upgrade - there are a few tuners that are stone hammer & a bone wrench simple, and work very well.
I put on a set of V&H 5 1/2 inch Monster Twin slash mufflers, Fuel Moto Jackpot Stainless headers, a Boyesen Power X Intake, and used the V&H FP3 tuner.
After I installed the other bits, I just downloaded the V&H tune for a similar setup, ran three Autotune sessions, and the bike runs PERFECTLY. Pulls strong from any RPM/speed without a bog or hiccup, no flat spots or backfires (well, maybe a burble on strong deceleration). I had it out on I-4 on Monday and hit over 100 MPH (indicated) coming off an on-ramp before I realized how fast I was going. It runs much smoother, cooler, INSTANT throttle response, and pulls like it never did stock. It even seems to be getting better gas mileage (only two tanks so far).
I just picked it up yesterday from the dealership after my mandatory Clutch recall, and the tech said it surprised him when he took it out for the test ride after he did the work.
Lemon law works in this case too. if you keep taking it back and they admit they can't fix it the either pay for the repair or replace the bike or buy it back from you at no cost to you.
I just want the bike fixed ! I hate to put it back to stock after spending all the money for the work to be done. Do i have any recourse to make them fix it ?
Look up the lemon law in your state. I am sure the dealer will install a better tuner under warranty at their cost before buying the bike back from you.
Sorry to hear of this man - I would suggest asking for the PV Install and Tune on them letting them know this was your first choice but they told you to go with the current tuner that does not work - At some point they want you to be done and happy too
I don't think they know what the hell their doing, look under the bike where the exhaust goes underneath, see if it's hitting, if it is, you'll have to loosen and adjust it, don't think it's a tuning issue. Have a couple of friends over and do it yourself, screw the dealer. Had to adjust my power duals, look underneath and by your right foot, that heat shield might have to be moved a little. flhman
Check your heat shields on the header pipes, see if any are touching the floorboards or frame! Something that simple will make you wonder where a vibration could only come from, if the heat shields are touching anything, loosen them up and readjust them so they don't touch anything.
If it's really the Street Tuner being at fault and not being able to tune out the bad tune on the bike I'd bitch the dealer out asking for a refund and buying your Power Vision instead. They did say it was the Street tuner not having the capability to tune it out.
Make them fix it or pay back all expenses you payed on tuner and tune.
Did they tell you the bike would run like shit with the Street Tuner installed ? If not, they're liable.
The shit some dealers say can be absolutely ridiculous. Jmo. If you end up staying with that dealer and they do the Power Vision I would ask for the change of heart with the warranty to be a written statement. Otherwise, hopefully they just had somebody with lack of experience installing your parts and the vibration is the exhaust install. Good luck!
You need a different dealer that knows what the hell their doing.
I hate hearing stories like this.
If the bike was good before they starting f-cking around with it, I would demand they fix it.
Go talk to the general manager of that stealership and tell them to make it right.
Don't let your friendship with the dealership cloud your judgment. 1st and foremost they are a business and you have every right to seek customer satisfaction. They did the work and it is not satisfactory - stay on them like ugly on an ape until the problem is resolved. As mentioned this is why so many guys do this work themselves but that said you deserve to have the work completed to your satisfaction. They are serving you a plate of bull!
They gave me the bike back and basically said that is how that pipe is. It makes vibration. I know there are 1000s of these pipes on the road. If this is the way it is then Vand H would not be selling them anymore. He told me he would take it off and put stock header back on. Yes thats makes a ton of sense after i sepnt the money to buy te pipe from them and pay the labor for the install. I can feel the pipe hit the floorboard when I hit a big bump also. Motor mount maybe ? Hell i dont know.
Take it somewhere else, screw that dealer, friend or no friend, their dumber than a box of rocks. Check the heat shield by your right foot, check the bracket under the bike, I'll bet it's hitting at either one of those points, some parts changer threw it on and didn't check to see if everything was lined up before tightening everything. And no, they don't all do that, Vance and Hines is an excellent choice for your exhaust, just get it setup properly. flhman
I had Power Duals on my old '16 and Swomack has them on his too........by no means do they all do that - Your shop rushed the job out the door without proper quality control checks - This is a simple fix if the Vibes are indeed coming from the pipe
Your stealership screwed up brother.
I am pushing 44,000 miles now on my 2015 RGS and have zero vibration from my exhaust.
I would look into that spacer deal, sounds like that might be where the F-up is.
Swomack
What a sorry excuse for a service department.
I had Power Duals on my 2011 Road Glide Ultra and currently have them on a 2012 Street Glide and a 2015 CVO Road Glide Ultra. None of them exhibit this problem so, no, that isn't inherent in this exhaust.
Does the bike have the included spacers installed for the right floorboard bracket? V&H shows 1/2" spacers used for the floorboard bracket in their instructions. I had a similar issue when I installed the Khromewerks 2 into 2 header on my 2016. No possibility of any adjustment to pipe/heatsheild to make it work. After some research, I found that both V&H and Rinehart have spacers shown in their instructions so I decided purchase a separate spacer kit from Kuryackyn to resolve (and I'm still pretty annoyed that I had to do that). You can find the installation instructions for your pipe on Dennis Kirk if you don't have them to check.
The more work you can do yourself, the more you know what was done! I cannot imagine a F'n Tuner causing a vibration... seriously? I think Eddie is onto something much more likely.
I'd honestly ask for a full refund on everything. Have them take the parts back off put the stock ones on and never return there. He's obviously an idiot. And his techs are just as bad. Go buy the parts and a shop manual and do it yourself. With all the money you saved on labor. Buy more parts.
That blows, Id check the mounting and brackets for the crossover pipe..undneath in the rear and on the left side..make sure the brackets look like the VH ones..not jury-rigged...
