If you are having problems with warped front rotors that make your brake lever feel as if its pulsating and you can hear an annoying rubbing sound at low speeds, then it would be a good change to make when you finally need to replace the rotors at around 70,000 miles. Don't spend the money (in my opinion) if you can live with it. My '06 Road King had rotors that were solid and made a little noise at walking speed. My '11 FLTRU has semi floating rotors and they work just fine.
The front rotors have a tendency to warp. If the rotors warp the main sign is pulsating when the front brake is applied, the amount of time it takes for the front rotors to show signs of being warped depends on how much you use the front brake.
When the front rotors are warped the replace them with floating rotors, the cost of floating rotors varies but if your not looking for a fancy looking rotor HD makes a good floating rotor for a reasonable price.
The rear rotor is a thicker rotor and there is no need to replace it with a floating rotor because the rear rotor doesn't have a problem warping.
If your not having issues with stock then i'd leave em. Floating is better, I did mine because of going with 21" up front and matching floating rotors wasn't that much more
Not unless there is a problem. I had floating Harley rotors installed when I bought the bike with the H-D Agitator wheels. They warped on me almost immediately. Went aftermarket floating rotors (Performance Machine) and new wheels. Was only looking due to warped rotors. 6 piston calipers are next.
I put on some Harley floaters, then went on a 3 week road trip. Big mistake, they warped out on me about 1 week in. Made for an interesting trip. Once I got home, Harley rotors went in the trash and I put on a set of EBC floaters and pads. I got full metallic pads (double H's) and they are noisy, but they stop like nobody's business (once they warm up).
As much as I was disappointed by the Harley rotors, I am pleased with the EBC rotors.
I put HD floating rotors on my bike about 4 or 5 years ago and they are just fine, no problem with warping at all. Sometimes holding the front brake after stopping will warp the rotors, the brake pads hold in the heat while the rest of the rotor cools.
Mark, your out there in AZ with nothing but beautiful open roads, you could probably get away with drum brakes
