Bike inspection woes

I purchased a bike with a salvage title. I knew that it would require work , no problem . I fix it up enough to get it safe so I can ride it then plan on fixing the small stuff later like dings and scratches . I took it to be inspected and they wrote it up as unsafe for the road for some good things I missed but some things I just rolled my eyes at . There were some small dents in the cowbells that I begrudgingly replaced . plastic valve stem caps were missing that I begrudgingly replaced . the battery hold down bolt . There was a nick in the clutch cable cover . I have now fixed every hit they gave me and am going to get it re-inspected this weekend . wish me luck => I wonder now how many bikes could pass the same test . For the record I have no issue fixing NEEDED issues but felt some of that was simply an attempt for me to just have them fix the stuff . As I said I have done everything on the list now .

Good luck, salvage title vehicles come with a lot of issue it will not stop with just the inspection depending on where you live.

I hear what you are saying!!...I am guessing this is not the regular inspection, but an inspection to get a title in your state?...so maybe they are going by a strict checklist, whomever signs off on it has their name and maybe career on the line..or maybe you got a picky inspector..regardless good luck!!!

That thing would have passed inspection here, before you fixed anything. If you can ride it in, it'll pass.

I did a salvage bike once, 2001 FXDX. Came out beautifully. Problem was, I had no title whatsoever, just a bill of sale from the salvage company. I asked at the DMV before I bought it, and they said it was easy to get a salvage title. When I went to get one, not so much. Basically told me whoever I talked to initially was wrong.

Took almost a year to eventually get a title. Lots of certified mail, huge pain in the ass. Good news was I ended up with a clear title, not a salvage title. Lesson learned, I'll never do that again...

In south Texas, I just roll up to the inspection station, blink my lights at them, ask how the wife and kids are doing and I'm out.. maybe 2 min.. that includes the time to run my debit card.. good luck
