What if.....

The reason the RG is delayed is that they will try to put the radiators in the fairing. It is possible because the fairing is fixed!!!

Maybe one on each side with a 69 Mach I style scoop. Or in the center like a 65 vette, above the headlights since there will be all that room when they move the radio to the sppedo console area!

I need to hit the photoshop. Maybe if they wont, a can do this when I retrofit the 2014 Twin Cool 110 to my 09 RG!!!!

I doubt it... I bet we will get the same setup as in the Street Glide...

Why would the go through all that trouble. They are not.

Still, can't wait to the see the new shark.

Who am I to shatter your dreams and hopes. :p

But the Street Glide checks all those areas... It is bigger in every possible way... with all the electronics upgrades, easier way to open the bags, TP is larger in every direction (but looks smaller in photos)...

Problem is fitting in the new "info center" into inner fairing dash.

Look for a retro to the "tourglide" type fairing of the late 80's early 90's. The new info center will be attached to the handle bars much like the speedo and tach are now. Current radio position in the dash will morph to holding speedo and tach that are slightly larger than the fuel and voltage meters but small than the current speedo and tach. Air temp and oil pressure display will move to the info center. Any liquid cooling will stay in the fairing lowers like they have now.

The new outer fairing will have better metal attachment threaded nuts placed into it. The fins will no longer be part of the alignment process of putting the inner back on the outer.

Attachment points will be similar to beefier torx type screws found under the batwing fairing out of sight by the front shocks.

Headlights will be smaller but more rectangular in shape, there will be an LED option but it will require first born child or digits from each hand.

There will be an on-board compressor to adjust the rear shocks and the windshield will have a power tilt option.

The mirrors will be built into the outer fairing but will fold inward for storage. The mirrors will also have those fancy little arrow lights built into them that show up in the mirror and also will have orange LED'S facing forward.

Only thing that will stay the same is the glove boxes on the inner fairing.

I'm wondering if they are waiting to see if the "water head" engine sells as to whether to use the air-cool or the water-cool.

They could put the info center where the tach and speedo are and put the gauges up top.

Oh, c'mon! The no-more-vrod rumor has been running for years now. The revo engine with it's high revs and power living up past 5000 rpm, it just isn't suited toward a bagger. Even if they DID put the revo in another bike, why would they discontinue the vrod? having the same motor in two models only helps them. That's like saying, why put the 103ci vtwin in more than one model.

I'm wondering if they are waiting to see if the "water head" engine sells as to whether to use the air-cool or the water-cool.
I thought the whole reason for the model-year off was they wanted the redesign, but the manufacturing tooling needed to be refreshed. So, redesign and factory machines replaced. I can't imagine they'd be making it up as they go along. No, it had to be already decided.

After seeing the results of Project <whatever>, it is rather easy to see why no 2014 Road Glide. They ran out of Engineers. They needed more time to figure out how to get the Infotainment package into a redesigned fairing. A big part of the new Infotainment is the ability to do touch screen. Let's face it, the radio on the Road Glide is not exactly within arms reach. Something has to be done to make that happen. The good part is, that Infotainment deeleybob is just a flat screen, and it can be put anywhere there is room, it does not need much depth, at least it shouldn't.

As for the Twin Cooling, it will be exactly like every other Touring Model. It will only be available on the Ultra, not on the Custom (no lowers), assuming they do both models if/when they bring it back. It makes no sense to design a separate cooling for just one model, not very cost effective at all. Besides, it should work as is on a Road Glide. It may have some bearing on the fairing design, as would incorporating that vent (which should be painted to match)

I am just happy that RGC CVO are not in the horizon for a few more years, and then there is the known fact that no blue RGC CVOs will be made until after 2018... So I will not be tempted to change my bike for awhile...

DOOFUS HD IS PROUD TOI BE CHOSEN AS THE STEALER PERMITTED TO DISPLAY THE FIRST PHOTO OF THE REDESIGNED SHARK. Pleaee note:
- improved engine intake
- new heat dissipation
- urban protective measures.
More to come

My take is that they only put the twin-cooled motor in a couple of models to gauge its acceptance and to be able to manage working out the bugs.

I fully expect to see the '15 FLTRU to have it and the FLTRX to keep the air-cooled power.

The 110 will remain in the realm of the CVO and will still be air-cooled.

It wouldn't surprise me if they came out with a complete redesign with the VROD engine for 2015, target market the GoldWing, F6B and the BMW tour bikes. They have plenty of batwing choices for those who want the old style. There have been some pictures floating around of someone who converted a VROD and I thought it looked really sharp, I have never ridden a VROD so I can't comment on comfort or ride but I'm excited to see what they come up with. I just hope they get it right...

Tour rod has been around almost sense day one the vrod came out.
It looks cool but a bit small for two up. While it maybe possible I doubt HD would put the current VROD engine in a touring bike.

the need SG and EG are hideous! i hate to see what they are gonna do to our beautiful roadglide. the 2014 harleys looks like Kawi cruisers. My heart was broken when i seen them :(

I could be wrong... anything is possible... but I just don't see the MoCo launching a new motor.

I fully expect the Roadie to return with a redesigned fairing to accommodate the new infotainment system.

I predict there will be 3 models:

Road Glide Custom - will have the new fairing with the 4.3 infotainment system. It will incorporate most of the Project Rushmore changes. It will retain the air-cooled 103 motor.

Road Glide Special - it will have the new fairing and will include the 6.5 infotainment system and come with security and ABS plus most of the other new features. The navigation will be optional. It will also retain the air-cooled 103.

Road Glide Ultra - will have the new fairing with the 6.5 infotainment system with navigation. It will include security and ABS, along with the other new features. It will also have the twin-cooled 103, since it is the one that comes with lowers.

That's about all I see in the new Shark.

Can't remember where I saw the article with big shooters at Harley Davidson talking about how little market share they have for the RG.
and they probably wont bring it back due to low sales numbers (comparativley)
You know those bean counter types, if it aint gonna increase the bottom line ,we dont want it. Who knows ??

#48 ·
How old was that article? The Road Glide market share was very low a few years ago. But there has been a significant increase in sales of the Road Glide during the last 2 or 3 years. I see them every where I go. 5 years ago we had 1 or 2 Road Glides in our HOG chapter. This year we probably have around 20. I don't think the big shooters at HD think the same way now.

The market share for sharks is just fine. Be assured it won't be dropped. I spoke with Michelle, head of product development while having breakfast at the 110th. she would give no details (both of us would be killed LOL) but said Roadglide owners would be very impressed with the 2015. I agree with Pargenz.

Not a fan of the Ultra, so hope they offer a strpped down version ala Custom or Special. I like the chopped tour-pak and hope that will still be available. The new Ultra tour-pak does nothing for me. Resembles something that would be on an import IMO.

I know we all want to speculate, wish, dream, hope, and pray for what the new RG will look like and will feature for options but no one, including the dealers will know until they get dropped off in the parking lot of the dealer. With the way the sales of these so called fugly bikes have taken off in the past few years theres no doubt in my mind that it will make its return. I would be highly surprised if its much different than the 14 SG's other than the fairing obviously. I personally dont think (and i may be wrong, it wouldnt be the first time) the MoCo could be that stupid and competely redesign their proven touring chassis just for one bike making our RGs the "test bike". I too would love a sneek peek at what lays ahead for the RG but like all of us ill have to wait and see

Or a P51 edition, the original shark!

I am on my third RG two of them have been RGU's. If there is no 2015 RGU I will keep my 2013 till someone can beat it for my needs.
Seems with the riles I ride every two year or so is time for a new one.
Even with a lot or miles it is easier to trade than sell .
That does not mean I can not rebuild the 2013 for many years to come.
Dealer I have used for years seems to think RG platform is coming back.
