I am in the market for a new helmet. I really like the low profile look of Bitwell, but since they are not DOT I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Fulmer V2, Bell Custom 500 or Daytona. I currently have an MR2 open face helmet that I think makes me look like Lord Helmet from Spaceballs.
I bought a Bell 500 custom "stunt" a month ago and have been very happy. I had planned to only use it with the intercom system when riding 2-up, but have found myself wearing it all the time. It is a little wild and crazy looking, but kind of fun to wear.
Now that it's getting cooler, I started wearing my Fulmer V2 lid. Short answer, LOVE IT! My good buddy Igor was adding some custom artwork to a Bitwell and I was able to compare both lids at the same time. The Fulmer V2 has a little more padding and is a legal DOT helmet. The Bitwell had bigger flake and has a chrome strip around the front of the helmet.
Fulmer also sells the old school style "bubble" shield. I have both the clear and the darkest tint shield. I just had dinner at my sisters house and a had the dark tint on and could still see really well at night.
As far as the Daytona, I tried to pick up one for my wife while at Delmarva Bike week. They had them for around $60 bucks. They are truly the smallest DOT helmets at there! They DON'T look like a big wobble head. I still will most likely get one for the wife this winter.
Can't give any help w/ the Bell. I hope this helps out!
Just picked up a Daytona 3/4 bucket for the wife. It truly is the smallest "DOT" out there. Also ordered a front face shield all for around $70 bucks.
The wife loves it! OLE SCHOOL looks w/ a ole school PRICE!!!
Hillglide here. I wear a MOCO Hybrid Half Helmet. it weights 1lb 6oz. I use the small face shield they have. I wear glasses without any problems. I have been on road trips & run into bad weather temps. at 20 degrees & snow. When in that cold I wear a ski type face mask that covers my face. it works great. the helmet is Dot approved. I paid $200. I don't remember the price of face shield.
Good luck in your search
I roll with a Fulmer v2, and their flat shield, with full tint when it gets a bit colder out here in Cali. It's a great lid. Isn't as bulky as some of the other offerings such as Bell. And fully DOT approved.
You'd have to call them to see if they have any others left, altho it will give you look of a 'shroom head.
But at that price for a quality helmet, I snatched one up...looks be damned! They also included clear & amber visors for $4.95 each and waved the associated shipping costs & sent them in the helmet box.
If you call, ask for Jennifer...she was great to deal with.
Biltwell released the DOT 3/4 open face helmet. I got my denim black for $99. I also have a non-DOT 3/4 Biltwell. Love them both. Comforteable and retro looking. Getting ready to order another one for my wife in a color to match the Sedona Glide
I bought the Bell Pit Boss. I tried it on at a local shop, but ordered it online. I like the removable neck curtain, the adjustment mech, and the integrated sunglasses. Usually I wear a large but these seem to run smaller, so I ordered a xL/2xl.
If you're looking for low profile and DOT approved you should check out Outlaw Motorcycle Helmets. I recently purchased one after wearing a $15 brain bucket for the past 15 years and I love it. To my knowledge Outlaw makes the lowest profile DOT approved helmets available.
