I have a bad case of tinnitus and significant hearing loss from an explosion in the military. You know that super-annoying ringing in your ears after a particularly loud rock show? I hear that 24/7/365 and yes, it sucks big time. Now I have developed a hyper-sensitivity to any loud noise. Very loud noises give me instant vertigo. Needless to say, I have to wear ear plugs.

I also have very sensitive ear canals and after wearing your generic foam or rubber earplugs for more than a half hour my ears start to itch, then burn, then hurt. After putting up with that for a couple years I finally pulled the trigger on some custom molded ear plugs. It only cost about a hundred bucks and all I can say is I wish I had done it years ago! Super comfortable and great reduction in wind/road noise. But I still hear cars and what I need to hear just fine.

Any audiologist's office will usually do it. They take a mold of your ears and send out to have the plugs made. If you have them done make sure they fit perfectly. I had to have the left ear redone three times to get a perfect fit.

The best I have found for riding are the 3M Peltor Skull Screws. They fit, don't work loose and are very quiet.

I wear a FF and blue Hearos (32db reduction) at 1.99/box of 20. My FF tended to reverberate from the wind (no fairing on my sporty, so the wind was full blast). I can hear what I need to hear much better while cutting down on the wind/road noise. My pipes even sound better with them in.

I've had tinnitus since I was 13 from hunting and firing a 16 gage shotgun and yeah , it really sucks!
I have been wearing disposable foam ear plugs but just ordered some 'Silent Ear' reusable ear plugs from earplug superstore
Haven't gotten em' yet but will post results after I've tried them.
Methos, I wound up getting hearing aids to compensate for some of my hearing loss and when I wear them it really cuts down on the ringing in my ears.
Was a nice bonus in addition to being able to hear birds singing and conversations in loud places.
I don't wear em' while riding.

... Chrome?? We donneeedno stiinnkinng chrome.

Ear Plugs

Custom molded is the only way to go. Ride with a brain bucket and ear plugs. Music sounds better at 80 MPH and I can have a conversation without screaming after riding for hours. I had mine made at a bike event in 2001. They are always with my helmet and glasses. Well worth $100.
