I-75 Road Construction

If you are going to be headed to Florida (on I-75) over the next several months (Bike week), I want to give you a good warning about the road construction between exits 84 and 78. Tractor trailers are told to use the left lane. To avoid the rocks and sand being thrown up by the big trucks, most bikes are using the right lane. The right lane is comprised of half the old interstate right lane and the shoulder which puts a sizeable seam in the middle of the lane.

After you get out of the construction going south at the 78 marker, you pick up the nice three and four lanes that have just been finished. With one exception, starting with the right lane and working left, there is a two to three inch lip as you move from lane to lane. That includes coming on from an entrance ramp. If you are driving in the dark hours, you won't see it but you will notice it when your tire catches it. The lip problem goes for about 6 miles.

The construction company that did this wonderful job went broke so the final paving has not and probably will not be completed. There are no warning signs for motorcycles about the lip issue between lanes.

I just wanted to give you all a heads up to be careful coming down thru that area if you are headed south on I-75.

It will be the first construction you come to after going by the Perry, GA exit. That will give you a point of reference.

Have fun.

I was thrown off by the mile markers until I saw it's in GA, there is also construction on I-75 in FL, but it's not too bad.

2010 FLTRX, Custom paint, 107 CI, TS Bags, CM Fury 21" Wheel, too many other extra's to list.

I have yet to figure out how it happened but I was headed north thru the G3Georgia construction and one of those rubber bases about 3 feet in diameter suddenly sailed out of the median construction area and landed right in front of me. There was no place to go and no time to swerve, even at 60 mph. I hit it and wobbled a little and was able to keep going. Nothing was hurt. I think it blew off a truck in the median but don't know.

So if you are going that way, remember, the lowest bidder is doing the work, the lanes are dangerous, trucks will have the left lane and the overall two southbound lanes are narrow. Watch yourself.
