I've logged enough miles on the new shocks to adjust the preload, so that's in the works for the weekend. I need to enlist the help of a couple of buds: one to hold the scoot straight so I can get into riding position and the other to take the measurement.

Ran into a couple of guys after work, but wouldn't you know it - the spanner wrenches and caliper are on my bench.

I am really digging the handling in the curves, which I plan to do a whole lot of on the weekend. Forecast is sunny and low 80s.

Pargenz,
Any further thoughts on your Ohlins? I'm interested in hearing more of your experience with setting the sag and long term evaluation. Do you ride two up at all? Do they provide enough support that you won't scrape more than riding solo?

I have had Ohlins on my bike from Howard for a while now. I want you to know how good Howard is to work with. I first ordered my #3's last year. I put them on and rode for a while. They were exactly what I had ordered. I still thought they were a little too tight for me. I talked to Howard and sent them back. He changed out the springs for something more tolorable for me all without charge. I put them back on and look forward to everyday I get to ride.

pargenz, my riding style seems close to yours, however I do ride 2 up about 10% of the time.

what did these shocks cost you?

Good write up. Subscribed.

OP said would comment on contribution to better ride of front and back separately since they would be installed at different times. Looking forward to those comments.

I've had my Ohlins 2-2's on my 2009 RG for about 5 months now. It has taken quite a bit to get them adjusted to my riding style, but they have definitely improved compliance and firmness on the curves. The back end seems more attached to the ground (running the stock replacement Dunlops). I seem to have picked up a bit more ground clearance in curves. It took some more work to get them adjusted for two up, but they are much better than stockers both two up and single/sporty riding.

What suspension do you have on the front end

I am running the Progressive Monotubes upfront. Had to do a little bit of fine tuning with the minimal amount of oil in the tubes. Had a bit of a squeak to them when compressing, but added about.5 oz more (+/-) and its fine now.

I keep needing to add more preload to the Ohlins outback when ever my daughter rides with me. She's only 120 pounds but we bottom out on the freeway here in SoCal sometimes on our way home from picking her up at college. The rebound was pretty much spot on when I got them.
