I just bought a 2016 FLTRXS and know it doesn't come with the 7 pin headset port. Can the port be added without adding the CB? Is there somewhere this can plug into and does the radio need a dealer flash for it to be operational if it can be done?
In the P & A catalog there is a long cable that would come out the bottom of the seat so I think its possible? I want it in the console on the tank.
I think you can replace the stock console with the ultra console to place the 7-pin in it. I added the wired 7-pin and have it mounted alongside my console. It's still set up, but I went with a Bluetooth solution from Sierra Electronics
I have the service and parts manuals already and you are correct its actually just the insert not the whole console. What I am now having a difficult time sourcing is the harness or connector part numbers to get from under the seat up to the fairing and radio?
I want it in the console is I would like to try a microphone plugged into the console.
Just finished installing the XM, and com port on my 15 Special, didn't need to flash anything. Plugged the cable into my helmet, fired up the system, and setup my comms to the headset. XM and Comm port both functioned fine. The biggest pain that I encountered was adding the ground wire to the comm plug. I had originally planned to mount the comm port in my console, but since the bike is apart for more powder now, I am experimenting with different solutions. Currently I am thinking of making a bracket to mount it just behind the left side cover, so that the cable is behind me, rather than running forward to the console.

Got the same bike and comm port is beyond easy to install, no flash needed. And if you run the cables the right way there is enough length to mount it in the center console so it looks like it came that way.
Thanks, I have since ran the communication port cable. There is enough cable to make it to the console but I am waiting to install it. If I run it straight to the console you will have to remove the console and either remove it from the console or leave the console hanging if/when you remove the fuel tank. I appreciate how easy it is to remove the tank so I am going to install the factory cable to the console and cut the headset port off the communication cable and add the connector for easier removal.
I installed my cable when I did the biketronics amp and speakers.
Thanks JMJohn,
It is a little late for the J&M comm port for me, sure would have been simpler. I bought the factory comm port, pulled the tank and ran it all thru the wire-way as if it were factory installed.

Do you by chance have the part number for the insert? I've found the center console (part # 61270-08) but cannot find the insert that will hold the communicator port.
I will most likely be selling my center console from an ultra which I had in my 17 RGS for the 7 pin hook up. Hit me up if your interested.
