I have a 2012 RG custom that I have ran and HDPDPLUS ipod intreface on the past couple years. It now doesn't work more than it does work. My question is, am I better to buy the Boom interface or a new head unit that will allow me to run my ipod via handlebar controls. I listen to music via ipod and seldom use the radio. If i do go with a new unit I was looking at the Aquatics AV or Jensen. Looking for something that is pretty much plug and play. Thanks

I' m not an Avid apple user so not sure if I-pod's are blue-tooth capable now. I just installed a hog tunes BTS-AA. Installed where the useless air temp gauge was and now my phone connects wirelessly to my head unit. Not controlled with handle bar controls but still easier than trying to skip songs using my phone. Cost me $119 +tax. Has worked out nice for me. Pics are of unit installed on my bike. Only exposed wire is from unit to Aux port on head unit.

I had to clean all the contacts on my wife's iPod interface, then dabbed a little dielectric grease on the contacts. Been fine ever since

I had nothing but trouble with the HD ipod interface. I finally decided to get the Jensen head unit and have been happy. I had the HDPDPLUS on my old bike and I thought it worked well. Much better that the HD unit. I think my problem may have been that I was usnig an ipod touch. After I did an update it never worked right.

I had the iPod interface when I had the Harley stock HK head unit in my 2008 Road Glide. Frankly, I think it is a good idea but it did not perform so well. I eventually purchased an aftermarket head unit that has a rear USB connected through a "pigtail" run through my glovebox. Plus, I have Bluetooth capability. The HK head units are durable, for sure. However, the aftermarket head unit is far and away superior in sound quality. JMHO...

Ronnie-

What head unit did you go with? How does it hold up in the rain?

Thanks

I have a Kenwood head unit (KDC-Xxxx series). Far and away better audio quality and functionality re: Bluetooth access, Pandora, USB, etc. I have had the unit for a couple of years, so they have an updated series. The only down side is that I have had occasional issues with the display going out. It is an occasional issue and frankly, I believe it is related to the bike's electrical system because I have the same stereo in my car and have had zero issues. I haven't had a lot of issues with rain. However, I live in Southern California and it doesn't rain that much here. Even when it does, I generally don't ride in heavy rainstorms. Other than the display issue, the head unit performs as expected. But that is my experience. Your mileage may vary...
