I recently purchased a DB Neo4 amp, Sony Head Unit and Hertz speakers for my 2011 Road Glide. After completing installation, the amp would go into protect mode during start cranking process and won't reset until ignition is turned off and back on. Voltmeter showed voltage was dropping below 10.5v when the starter engaged. All this with a brand new battery. Other than a Power Commander V and the new stereo upgrades There isn't anything electrical hooked up to draw. At all other times voltage is as it should be...
Was this an issue before the install (voltage drop)? I would say the starter is sucking WAY too much power. try this: pull your plugs and try again. the starter will not work as hard.. (yeah, I know you know that)..
What year bike? Could your battery be going bad? Do you keep a battery tender on the bike when it's parked? Is the amp wired directly to the battery? If the bike is older chances are that that battery is starting to go bad and keeping it on a tender will just mask over the problem. Pull the battery and have it load tested before you assume that the starter is bad.
