I am looking at either the Biketronics kit with BT2180 amp and BT465 6.5" Titan II Speaker Kit or the NoCageAudio package that has a Diamond Audio Micro2v2 amp and Arc Audio Moto 602v2 speakers. Both setups are supposed to rock, but after talking to both Karl at NoCage as well as the folks at Biketronics, I've heard the FM reception can disappear. I have the internal fairing antennae and really don't want to lose my reception.
Karl said I would most likely lose my FM with the Diamond amp. The lady I spoke with at BT said their latest version of the 2180 works pretty good at keeping the reception.
Those of you with these systems, can you testify as to whether or not you have decent FM reception?
You know you can always mount the amp in the bags or Tour pack if that's an option. You'll keep your reception with it mounted back there. Just another option.
The TP is off the bike 90% of the time and I don't want to sacrifice space in the bags. Do you think if I run the antenna underneath the amp or just try to keep it as far away from the amp as possible, it would work?
I know this may sound crazy but has anyone tried to put a copper sheet between the amp
and the antenna to shield it. You can get them off ebay for decent price.
I never had a problem with FM on my 2180 or 4180. I don't listen to FM anymore so haven't tried it with my current micro 4V2. I think the biggest factor here is your antenna. My hidden worked well, most don't. If FM is important I'd go with the 2180 but the moto 602 speakers. Ran that combo for awhile and very happy with it. If you don't mind losing FM go with the micro and bridge it.
I just bought from Biketronics but I got the high powered 2 channel amp (2360) with the Hertz speakers.
They told me I would probably lose FM reception.
That would kind of defeat the whole purpose I would think but Im going satellite anyway so I didnt care so much.
Not like I have FM reception worth a crap now anyway.
Wont be installed for a week or two so I cant really say.
They did mention the 2180 is better with FM than the 2360.
So what is it about the internal antenna that causes you to lose reception? I have the Micro 2v2 and put a shorty rubber antenna on mine and it works great!
Something about having the internal antenna (which is in the fairing) too close to the digital signal of the amp. If you have the standard antenna or whip, it supposedly isn't an issue. I just don't want to spend all this money on an audio system and give up my internal antenna and FM signal. Supposedly different amps work better with the antenna than others. Karl was saying something about marine grade amps seem to just work better with the antenna inside the fairing.
