Well, after hemming and hawing for almost a year.......all the while collecting parts....I decided I needed to keep my 2006 RG and give up the thought of getting something newer.

I'd been hoping to score a good deal on a 103" and even went as far as to put my 06 with 13,000 miles that I bought in 2013 up for sale.....but the best offer I was getting was about $8500 and I wanted more....so I had to make the decision to keep it and go ahead and upgrade it instead of spending the money on something newer and upgrading that to a lessor degree. I'm ok with the decision as I like custom and I like to mod. So here we go....

As it looked when I bought it........

Well the first thing I did was to pick up a tourpack from Mutazu based on the positive comments on this forum. And install a quick detach setup and Kuryakyn adjustable base. I REALLY like the adjustable base as there was NO way my girlfriend was gonna fit behind me without it.

As you can see I also threw on a short windscreen.....looked good but wow, the buffeting was crazy...

So I picked up a Klockwerks 12" and while that was better.....It still needed improvement.

More to come...

Thanks!

Since I wasn't sure if I was gonna get a newer Road Glide or stick with my 06 for almost a year.....I'd started accruing parts in anticipation. So sitting in my garage I had....

Progressive Suspension Mono tubes -1"

Progressive Suspension 970 13" Shocks (with the remote reservoirs )

Progressive Suspension Tour Link

16" Factory 47 Malos

LA Choppers Black SS extended clutch, brake and throttle cables

Billet ignition cover

Aluminum Covers for the gauge bezels

Kuryakyn Rear Bullet blinkers and license plate holder

Alloy Art front LED blinkers

Figure Machine 5" Air Cleaner

And a passenger back rest which I found out means I needed the OTHER quick disconnect set up....sigh.

I had assumed I'd go with a fat spoke 21" Front wheel and a front fender that hugged the tire more.....but I was getting pretty turned off by the price. I wanted ALL black on the barrel, spokes and nubs and was getting some pretty high quotes to build it...$700+...too much for me right now.....and with fenders running 2-3 hundred bucks PLUS paint....it was just too much...I'd found the HD Street Stalker front fender and thought it looked really good.....but it didn'tt work with a 21". Then I found it....

A brand new chrome RideWright 60 spoke 18" Wheel on eBay for about $300 shipped.

And with that....my decision about the HD Street Sweeper became much easier.

A trip to the powder coater and it was nice and black just like I wanted!

And since I was going to the powder coater.....I took every chrome bit and piece in as well.

Dropped off my bike at a local shop (Bob Taylor Motors in Huntington Beach) and had him install the 16" Malos and the newly blacked out forks, cans and Monotubes and mount the new Pirelli Night Dragons and Progressive 970's. And while the wheel and brakes were off I had him go ahead and instal the new front fender too...

More to come....

Which pretty much just leaves me with performance.

Which is where we are left at now.

I dropped it off a couple days ago.....and just shipped my heads and cylinders out to Frank at Dragos today!

98" Stage 2.5, 10.5 comp, ported heads with a Black Dragula 2, 2 into 1 exhaust.

Franks thinking about 3 weeks till it's all coming back to me.

5 days there....then 3 weeks....then 5 days back....

It's gonna be a LONG month.

But at least it will give me plenty of time to take the remaining engine covers etc and complete my blacking out of the chrome.

Then it's off for tuning and dyno....100 hp or bust.

Wish me luck and I'll update as I go....

Thanks, I probably will go with bag extensions when I get the bike up and running....thinking all black but those are nice!

Plastic-dipped my black wheel today.....shoulda had it PC'd but oh well....next time I change a tire. Plastic-Dip should be fine till then.

Talked to Frank Drago yesterday...my top end should be shipping next week and hopefully my black Dragula 2 in the week or so after.

Another box showed up last night at my shop.....

Nicely packed........

Dragos Dragula 2 2into1 exhaust.

Powdercoat looks great

Now we're gonna get somewhere. Spoke to Gene Thomason over at Gene Thomason Racing and he's opened a spot for me. So it's get the exhaust over to my builder this morning....get it on and fire up the new motor...make sure there's no leaks and then trailer it over to Torrance for Gene to work his magic, break it in on the dyno and we should see what all the fuss has been about by the end of the week!

Now I'm getting excited!

Dropped off the exhaust....snapped a couple pics of the bike. Not sure how I feel about the natural gray motor ..... black would look better, but oh well....I'm gonna try it for a bit and see if it grows on me. If not...I can always paint it later.

Thanks Jeff! It's def more pronounced in person (the contrast) and much more so from the primary side. I think it just may take getting used to....I've just never had a bike engine that wasn't black.

Well, for the most part it's done....I got the razor tour pac on...the saddlebag extensions, the motor is done, The Red Shift 577 cams don't really "come on" till almost 3000 rpm but boy does it pull. I like em, but I do have a ton of valve train noise....I need to figure that out. Maybe Rockouts will help. I'll update with what I find out. On the dyno it made 110 HP and 105 TQ. Can't say enough about the Dragula 2 pipe....it's really subtle till you get on it...then it barks pretty good. I still have plans for some more mods for it....possibly paint, rear wheel and some odds and ends but it's a rider now and exactly what I wanted.

Here's some photos

Here's a quick video of the bike idling.... the Redshift 577 cams sound great...you can also here the valve train chatter a bit. I just picked up some Rock Outs and will install them in the next couple weeks, I'll be curious to see if it makes a difference.

Sounds great! I bet it sounds even better when you hit that throttle. makes me want cams even more now!! Especially with the dragula 2 into 1...

Thanks, you know.....the only people that know what year your Road Glide is, are typically other Road Glide owners....and we're somewhat few and far between. And When you meet up with another Road Glide owner, if they're digging your bike, it's not because of the model year......it's because of what you've done to it to make it yours. I thought long and hard about this bike.....over a year......I was gonna upgrade to a newer year with the 103" cause they respond better to engine mods and I like hp......but in the end I decided to stick with this platform cause I'd rather have a custom, exactly what I want version than a newer version that is only partly what I want. I'm happy with my choice!

Looking great. If I had known ahead of time, I would have sold you really, really cheap some black jugs from another bike build I did a few years ago.
Thanks, NOW you mention it! Hahahaha

Very true.....I have a pretty bad history of "over building" cars and motorcycles. I'm a old hot rodder at heart and have too many times spent $20k on a car only to sell it years later for $10k or $15k.

Two of the oldest rules in hot rods are....

1) Take your best estimate of what you think the project will cost and double it.

And

2) You won't get back much of the cost of most mods....but they can and often do make the car/bike sell faster.
