guitar trivia

tools of the trade trivia - prize, RF "dog ear" amp bracket

NAME THIS INSTRUMENT - closest to year, make and model, wins

hint 1: make and model aren't so hard, see image 3

hint 2: the serial prefix spanned 3 years, a common practice with new styles of journaled instruments

hint 3: you'de have to know which 3 years and how many were sold,
then guesstimate from there, so closeness counts

that was quick

according to the book, yes, my serial is 123880

headstock only has 12388 stamped on it

looks just like this one on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-Gibson-...item4d02cf4b15

the one on ebay is serial number 133021,
which is 10,000 numbers later, so I would then need to
find out how many guitars were made in 1963, total Gibsons

until I find further clues it's a 1963

if the headstock is right, it's a 61

but alas, I'd have to think the call tag was more accurate.

great barn find for me, sounds too 'authentic to part with' at the moment

I'm not a player but a fan. Serial indicates as mentioned 63. What a terrific Gibson Dove. Looks brand new. Production numbers here near bottom; http://home.provide.net/~cfh/gibson.html#serial

definitely 1963, was hoping it was earlier, but still the most valuable two years for this model.

pick guard is a trip, usually they get all bent and faded.

oh, well, it ain't bike parts, so in the end not so interesting

That is a beautiful guitar that you have! How do you like it as a player?

more or less perfect, minor indent under the 'D' chord, which is really common.

for the age it is considered normal wear, had true tone music, santa monica go over it, repair all joints and inspect and setup, normally I don't bother with stuff like that, but it's so old and rare, it got the "royal treatment" they graded it at 3% and fixed all the cracks, most you can't even see glue gives up, they needle in filler bonder, not as bad as a Gretch on weepage, but old guitars develop cracks

Guitar is actual still under warranty, for that type of repair, but there have been horror stories of guys sending in vintage Gisbons and getting the wrong one back

intonation is spot on, at least as close as possible. gets a little bit off around the 10th fret with bar chords. the bridge is original and adjustable but only goes so far back on the D string. replaced one strirrup and all pegs.

plays like butter, almost as easy to play as my les paul electric.
