I know this might be an Un-Cool topic. However, I had a close call this week. I got caught in an extremely unforcasted HeavyRain downpour and small hail...and almost dumped the bike on the highway. It made me ponder about my gear. I had my Chaps over my jeans and a decent HD Jacket (lightly armored) but I know it would have been nasty even at that if I dropped.
Has anyone any thoughts on this product or better ideas. Thanks (feeling old!) ![]() http://www.bohn-armored-pants.com/catalog/?prod=BGLA-01

I bought a pair of Kevlar jeans from E-bay. I really like the idea, but I didn't like the cut (my fault, I went cheap). Bought my wife a pair of Draggin Jeans and they are cut pretty much like normal jeans. She doesn't mind wearing them at all.
Though I often get lazy about safety equipment, I do believe I should use more of it. Nobody ever complains about having additional side impact protection or side airbag curtains in their cages.

They say its comfortable, but surly it changes how you sit on the bike when there is padding on your tailbone. Those do look interesting though.

I have a pair of these. Used to wear them when I was riding sport bikes in the canyons of SoCal.
Before I got these pants, I had a get off at 35-40 mph one day. I had on armored leather jacket, FF helmet, armored gloves and a good pair of riding boots. no riding pants, just jeans. The bike was ok, just bent foot peg, brake, lever and scraped bodywork. The jacket ripped up, but my arms and upper body unscathed. Big gashes in the face guard of the helmet, but face and head ok. scraped up left boot, but foot and ankle ok. palms of the gloves all scratched to pieces, but my grabbers were fine....However, my lower body took it without any more protection than jeans. I had bad scrapes and bruising on my left hip and a banged up left knee cap, from not having armor on the lower body. Interestingly, the jeans scraped up but did not tear. I still got the road rash even-tough the jeans did not tear, because my skin scraped against the rough inner surface of the denim. The bruises due to not having padding to cushion the hard impact of my hip bone and knee cap against the ground. ...After that spill, I bought these very pants. I wanted protection, but did not want to look like ultra-man in a full race suit. If I was going to incorporate social activities into the ride itinerary, I did not want to be at a bar or BBQ/pool party with some dorky riding pants. So I bought a pair of these very under armor pants. I used the hip and knee armor, but did not bother with the tail bone pad cause it felt funny sitting on it (and made me look like I had poo poo'ed in my pants). They work well considering what they are. Not as good as dedicated riding pants, but well enough. Not going to necessarily prevent broken bones, but will lessen the consequences of a fall in as much as bruising and road rash are concerned. Not too bad in the summer heat here in SoCal but we have dry heat here...Don't know how they fair in humid conditions.

Wow! Thanks for all the information. Makes it that much more compelling to look into buying these!

I've been down a few times, body still showing signs of it. padding is only as good as is, It's going to hurt regardless of padding or not. Your up in cool country, chaps are great but trust me when the road gets hold it eats. Leather will stand up great but think about it; your butt is going to make contact. Last year it ate through my jeans, my wallet and my Ruger. But that was at 70+ and a 200ft. trip down asphalt. I wish I had leather pants on I'd still have the few pounds of meat I left on the road.
just one mans opinion.
