I haven't been able to locate a copy of the current contract yet but here is their last contract that expired in 2007. In that contract there were no provisions for temp workers that I could find in my quick overview.

Thanx for the link. Yeah unfortunately this is the way good paying jobs are going now with tiered pay scales and part time/ casual employees. I'm a union rep and we are in the middle of contract negotiations (8 months and counting) with the company I work for. This is an issue I have been dealing with and this will be our first contract we allow casuals to help during peak busy periods and holiday season although ours will be structured a little differently than that at Harley.

Didn't mean anything by it, just got the wrong union. I'm IBEW and we have agreements that in very limited certain circumstances a laborer can be used in place of an apprentice. Usually they start the job and see that it's a good way to go and join the apprenticeship. I imagine that in contracts HD has with the Steel Workers and the Machinists there may be similar allowances. But I don't know, I just hope that that's the case, a temp can get a job and at some point join the union and have a decent life.
