header without cat
i asked yesterday what to do about exhaust issue and it seems that i need to remove cat,called 5 shops they wont do it,anybody got one for sale need it to fit 2012 RGC,THANKS

You'll be hard pressed to find a dealer or even a muffler shop to remove the cat because it is a violation of federal law to tamper with exhaust emissions. All you really need is a hacksaw, a chisel, and someone to weld it back together.

Not sure I understand what this is saying. My HD dealer is only too happy to sell and install a full exhaust system with no CAT in it. Isn't this fundamentally what a Stage I mod is? Open up the intake, exhaust, and remap the fuel delivery?

Stage 1 is an air cleaner and a download to the ecm. And trust me if your dealer removes the cat for you, he won't be in business long.

on my 10 Ultra I used a 9 california cat and removed the cat from the header ~ paid $75 for the header and removed the cat myself ~ Much bigger job than I anticiapated. I would pay the $140 as long as both bungs are present. Mine works great. On the 12 FLTRXSE I chose the Fuel Moto 2/1/2 Ceramic ~ alot easier and a few more bucks...

I have the one form my bike that I de-catted.I used the window method,and cleaned it out with a dremel to get all of it out in the cornors.
I welded it back together with a mig,but the welding is all hidden under the heatshields.

Still confused-most references I've seen to Stage 1 include mod to exhaust system. Are you saying dealers can't remove exhaust and install entire new pipes that have no cat in them, thereby tampering with the emission controls? My dealer has a Vance & Hines catalogue right on the counter, and it looks like they are doing precisely that.
