HIGH SCHOOL -- 1958 vs. 2012

Scenario 1:
Jack goes duck hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck's gun rack.
1958 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.
2012 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counsellors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario 2:
Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.
1958 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.
2012 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it.

Scenario 3:
Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students.
1958 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal's office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.
2012- Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The family gets extra money (SSI) from the government because Jeffrey has a disability.

Scenario 4:
Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.
1958 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman.
2012- Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse,Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affairwith the psychologist.

Scenario 5:
Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.
1958 - Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock.
2012- The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons.

Scenario 6:
Pedro fails high school English.
1958 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.
2012 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.

Scenario 7:
Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed.
1958 - Ants die.
2012 - ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents - and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

Scenario 8:
Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.
1958 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2012 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

How did we ever make it?

Pargenz, here's one to add to your collection:

1958: Johnny goes up to the pharmacy counter when no one else is close by and in a normal tone says"give me a pack of Marlboros" and then in a hushed tone says "and a package of rubbers".

1958: Susie wears a skirt above her knees to school with a spaghetti strap tank top and slip on shoes. Gets sent to the principals office where both her parents are waiting to take her home to have her change into something more modest and tell her why it's important to dress like a respectful lady. Marries a man who respects and loves her THEN have kids.

2012: Girls wear skirts above their knees to school, church, and pretty much everywhere else with spaghetti strap tank tops and slip on shoes. No one notices a problem with this it is "the style", some adult women dress the same and think it looks cute on their girls. Gets the attention of several guys, has a few kids, moves in with her parents to help take care of the kids, and gets financial help from the state.

the guys are blamed for being irresponsible and disrespectful

*this doesn't apply to all women so don't throw a hissy fit

Not exactly High School in 1958.. Was only 4.. But imagine this

Family coming home from wonderful vacation together in a 1958 Olds.. 3 kids in the back.. parents up front.. Everyone stretching out and trying to take a lil nap.. so the 4 year old,, crawls up behind the back seat, under the rear window and quickly stretches out and falls asleep.

1958: Harmony and a nice quite ride home for the family after a very busy family vacation..
2012: Highway patrol sees such a lawless violation and quickly pulls over the family.. Drags both mom and dad out of the car for frisking and cuffing while social services is called. Parents are haul'd off to jail while kids are taken to foster home...

Unfortunatly your right Pargenz. I don't know what the 50's were like(only 32) but I do work in a tough urban school system where everyone has to be afraid of lawsuits and losing thier certification. Its a shame because there really are some excellent teachers and parents out there. And hug a kid who is crying, your crazy, you'll get brought up on charges. Its a damn shame.

Sophomore male riding a bus to a field trip moons 2 young women in the back window of the bus. Young women turn out to be school teachers who were "offended" by the action.
Teachers got the name of the school off the side of the bus(DOH!!) and call principal the next morning.

1981-- Student gets called to principle's office, gets his ass chewed, and is asked to write a letter of apology to the teachers. Principle is told that it was a harmless prank, and told to go blow his apology out his ass. End of discussion, nothing else happens, nothing more was ever said.

2012-- Teachers call police immediately on cell phone, bus is stopped by 6 law separate agencies. Student dragged off bus and arrested as a sexual predator. Drug dog called, bus driver, teacher and 3 other students arrested for possession of pot. Highway is blocked for 8 hours. Flasher is registered as a sex offender and cannot live, travel, or work within 4 miles of civilization until his 45th birthday, ends up on government assistance gathering a house full of guns, ammo and pipe bombs while planning an overthrow of the Walmart corporation for not allowing him to buy underwear made in America.
