How to paint chrome

Thanks for the great info. I've painted some chrome before in pretty much the same way but did pick up a few tips to help make it stick. Also, thanks for the blitz black paint, I'm going to pick some up tomorrow.

Quick question I have is about the tappet covers at the beginning of the thread... are they Kuryakyn? If so, whats' the number, I don't see any listed for 2010 TC? If not where are they from?

I've been looking for something for the past 2 years to cover mine up short of taking off the stock ones and painting them. These look like they will just slip on.

Chainsaw, what brand paint did you use on wheels? You think Blitz would hold up on them (properly prepped)?

If prepped I think it would hold up pretty good. I used 1-shot or Kustom shop sign painters paint,. I can't remember what brand but I think I was using Kustom Shop at the time. The reason I went with sign painters paint, is because it will stick with no prep,. just tape it and spray. Its holding up pretty good, but it does have rock chips. I never knew how much abuse the wheels get till I painted them.

Thanx for the info...I had already posted on your other thread where you had sprayed the for sale sign before I had seen this one...everything looks simple enough and a lot of the questions I had seemed to have been answered with this one. I also love the blacked out look and that is something I am going for...little by little..

I have just finished my 010 rg,(if they ever get done). I decided on powder coat for the chrome pieces. I just scuffed the peices via sandblaster or rough sandpaper. The powder coating was pretty cheap and it looks awsome. As for wear I can't speak to that seeing how I am waiting on a SE compensator to finish this project. I did the crash bar and moved the road pegs severial times with no effect on the finish.I will post pics when I geet it off the rack.

I have a 12 ember red sunglo and want to paint the A/C ring red and the 103 black. will touch up paint work? I figure I will have to brush paint due to the detail around the 103 plus I am not going to or don't want to remove the ring.

Removing the ring is easiest way to do it. Apply heat to loosen the adhesive. Reapply with double sided trim tape after its finished. If removal is a definite no go get some painters tape to block off the ac, shoot the color over the whole ring, then find a pinstripe brush to do the lettering. Clear coat over the ring. The problem with taping is the gap between the ring and the ac. Good chance some paint will bleed onto ac under the ring. Ask me how I know ;-)
