Is it common practice to turn off oxygen sensors during a dyno tune? That ain't right.

there are many tuners both devices and people who turn off closed loop. basically if you get a dyno jet power commander that is what happens, the O2 sensors are removed and you are always in open loop. sounds like your tech took you out of closed loop at cruise and the afr was set very rich.

I have SE Ventilator a/c, fullsac sport pipe, Rinehart 4" slip-ons, SE254e cams, power commander V tuner, and last but not least a vance and Hines throttlepak. Here is my page by the tuner. The numbers before were from a basic map he gave me just to get me to his shop with the tuner I just got.

Dang, that's pretty impressive. There may be a new pipe in my future. What mpg are you getting with the FuelPak?

Actually scooterroid......this is with a pcv not the fuelpak. The mileage to a tank I never really got around to figuring out, but I think I'm averaging about 175 miles till the light turns on. I figure I lost mileage the moment I started to change stuff on the bike.

Scoots, you mentioned in your opening post that a new tech actually performed the tuning for you. Now that you have found out that the guy forgot to turn the O2 sensors back on (I assume that's what happened, i.e., you weren't meant to stay in open loop), I wonder if the quality of the tune overall is suspect?

Cruising on full days in the saddle on the CVO with he Thundermax I was still getting 210 miles plus on a full tank, 180 miles was if I was riding it hard at 80+ on the freeway.

I have the 254e cam's, dragos head pipes, cfr slip ons, se heavy breather and just the stupid reflash tune from the dealer, not a dyno tune at all! Now I ride the bike, let it eat every now and then and have fun with it. I've gotten as much as 295 miles on the tank. But usually average around 240-250 with this setup. Bike will be going in for dyno tuning in spring time.

Taccone is that with average riding on hwy or getting on it ? Because the only time I've seen that kind of mileage on my bike is on long hwy trips, that's were my numbers of 200 miles plus to a tank appear. I'll have to pay closer attention the next time I ride and let it go empty with a constant style of riding to see what I'm getting.
