V&H Monster Ovals

I had a set of monster ovals installed when they were setting up my FLTRX. After about 800 miles I noticed a metallic noise and found that the rubber mount had vibrated out of the bracket on the right side. Undid the bracket and moved it back but less than a hundred miles it did it again. Any suggestions to keep it from happening?

Are the bolts holding the mufflers to the bracket backing out or is the rubber grommet shifting? If the bolts are backing out replace the lockwashers that should be on there. If the rubber is shifting then you need to look and see if they are installed correctly. It should have a lip around it to keep it in place and the the slot cut in it should contour the the bracket. If its torn or installed upsidedown then you very well may need to replace it. If its installed correctly but just loose fitting try cleaning it off with rubbing alcohol and put a light coat of black RTV silicon on it and reinstall it.

It's the rubber, bolts are tight. I didn't look to see if the v groove is on the bottom. Thanks, I'll check that out tonight.

I had the same problem and it drove me crazy until....I went to Home Depot, purchased some stainless steel zip-ties. They are in the same section as the plastic ones. Then I snaked two of them through the bracket, one on each side of the rubber (through the hole where the metal hanger goes) while the hanger was in place. Basically zipped-tied the rubber in place. Then lubed the metal hanger with some high-temp grease so that when it vibrates, it does not pull the rubber mount out of place. Maybe it would just work with the grease, but the metal zip ties are added insurance....... Jim

Mine has done the same thing...only the right side also. I did use some dielectric grease when I put the insulator back in and it hasn't moved again.

Heres your simple and free solution...mine was doing the same thing and I noticed that the rubber kept sliding forward. If you look at the rubber you will see a lip on one side. Just flip your rubber around so that the lip prevents it from sliding in the direction that it want to travel. Hope that makes sense.

An update on your suggestion. I flipped the rubber around with the wedge in back, and so far no more problem! when I took the bag off and looked at it, your tip made a lot of sense. The wedge effectively keeps it from moving forward because it creates a block to keep it from moving. Thanks.

Same thing on my set -- oulled it out - cleaned it - reinstalled - NP.
