I've never really had a problem with the well nuts either. I came up with this idea for a couple of reasons. First, I thought for as well made and expensive as these bikes are, this was a chincy way of mounting a shield. Second, well nuts are not permanent. I take my sheild off pretty frequently and they do wear out. Third and probably the main reason is I was working on a friends RG and due to the fact that the fairing is a molded part, one of the holes in his fairing was oversized and oblonged which wouldn't allow a wellnut to hold. These seemed to solve that problem on his bike.
I guess it comes down to choice. If you like the well nuts, use them as they work just fine. If not, this is just another choice. Thats what makes this a great forum, everyone throwing in their ideas and solutions to problems.
