Grumpy, did you just cut and plant the top or did you trim it down to expose the roots?

.
I simply sliced off the top of the pineapple (about the top 1/5) with the leaves intact and stuck it into the moist ground under a shaded area..
Its been there now for about 18-20 months ...

Hey G90? How are your pineapples today? Frozen!
All chiding aside, we had a neighbour that could grow just about anything, he liked the challenge of mother nature. He grew aspargas in prairie dry Calgary, that was a challenge itself. I framed in a small vegetable patch in my yard last fall and intend to grow some veggies this year as well. Going to try parsnips, they require 120 frost free days so that will be a challenge, carrots, fingerling potatoes, maybe some sunflowers and a couple of roma tomato plants. ***NO CORN.*** I saw enough of that last summer on my way to and from SWII.

Pineapple "tree?"
Never seen such... I've looked over acres and acres of pinapple plants in Hawaii, didn't see any "trees."
Am I missin' sumptin?

ya know..while you're at it,why not start a banana tree? A guy I used to know ran the greenhouse at Kansas State, and grew them, also at his home.
He did have a degree in botany, which is why he worked at the post office,he said it paid better..but hey,how hard can it be?
