If you want to go to CV44 and retain Cruise control, you need to buy the "street legal" version - if you can find one. but I don't think HD sells it anymore. The "race only" CV44 doesn't have the CC bellcrank and you would need to swap the throttle shafts to add one. Not sure if you can swap with the CV40 shaft... I just opted to go without cruise control when I swapped to a CV44 on my RG.
In my opinion, a CV40 would be more than sufficient on a mildly hotrodded 80" Evo with stock, and even street ported heads. A CV44 probably would be noticeable on a dyno (few hp at the top end), or on a street ridden hotrod, but I would not expect to notice the difference on a heavy touring rig. I'll leave that answer to Kirby as I'm sure he has more experience in this area. As I mentioned I run a CV40 on my stroker... maybe one of these days I should install the cv44 I have on my bench and see how it runs. :-D
I like Woods cams, a lot! But I would never buy a Woods carb. Way to expensive to justify the end result. Heck you get most of what you'd want in a CV44. My opinion is based on my riding partners experience.
