Hey Doc, how come the 98-05 J&M 7.25 speakers are rated @ 8 ohms and the 06+ are 2 ohms? Is there any other difference between them? What would keep a fella from putting the 2 ohm speakers in a '05-? Oh yeah, what r u gettin' for a set now? '04 RG

The difference is in the factory headunits. 98-05 headunits are made by Radio Sound and are rated at 8 ohms. 06-2011 headunits are made by Harman/Kardon and are rated at 2 ohms. The only way to run 2 ohm 7.25" J&M speakers on a 98-05 bike is to run the J&M 250 watt amp which is rated at 2 ohms.

So, the amp has to match the speakers? (I've got an elf 2125x I traded for and was hoping to use.) Or is the J&M amp the only one that will work for my application if I want to run the 2ohm speakers? Sorry for the ?'s - I'm not electronically challenged, I'm electronically retarded!
