On three occasions I fueled up as soon as the light came on. I never got more than 5.0 gallons in the tank. So, that one gallon left is translated into xx miles to empty range based on your current consumption, ie city vs highway and 80mph vs 55mph. It will change when your driving conditions do.
Saw the lo display once and it needed 5.5 to fully fill it.
