Will it work with a Non-HD Garmin 660 or 665? They're significantly cheaper that the HD branded ones...
I have a 665 and swap it between bikes. I love it as it's my XM Radio, MP3 Player and I use the weather radar too. Also makes a great Bluetooth interface to my helmet and phone. I don't have the NIMS deal, just use the 1/8" input on the radio. Works well for me as I listen to XM 90% of the time anyway.
It's still a spendy unit, but it does a lot of things. It's water and vibration proof, glove friendly, daylight readable, and works very well..
