Also~most important to me~I secure softies to the rear peg/floorboard mounts (I feel that these are much more solid than saddlebag mounts/guards) and secure the tie downs to the truck/trailer.

When I picked up the bike 6/12 in south east PA on my way to Laconia, I secured the bike in this manner and had 0 issues when going through the Bronx on I-95 and the F-250 was becoming airborne at 40 mph!!

Well... The only issues that I had were crimp marks on my seat!!!
+1 on strap location ... Only way to go

I use soft loops and high tensile strength (5000lb) locking ratchet straps on the top of the crash bar around the mounting bracket. I also put it into a condor wheel chock before tying it down. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1360947155.858740.jpg you can see the Condor on the front wheel in this pic. It holds the bike upright with no added support.

Default Transporting

For the past 3 winters I've hauled my bike down to Florida from NH on my f150 using Harbor Freights wheel chuck, http://www.harborfreight.com/motorcy...ock-97841.html, Watch for coupons I paid $39 bucks. I put soft straps (jp cycles) with tie downs from the front fender mounts to the wheel chuck to secure the bike to the wheel chuck. Soft straps around the lower triple tree with tie downs to the truck bed with partially compressed front forks. Soft straps from the passenger paddles to the side of the truck bed ( should you have to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a bonehead you don't want the back end of the bike shifting around). All 3 trips went with no issues. Partially compressing the front suspension isn't an issue, wouldn't leave it that way for a month. Is it true Harley ships them to the dealer with the front suspension compressed?

It seems to me that even the soft straps around the front fender mount will touch the paint on the fender. (unless I have a different soft strap). I would guess this would cause some sort of damage to the fender paint.

The other day when working the bike in the garage, I had the front tire in the HF chock. I ran the soft straps over the triple tree and used the ratchet strap from that. I am still concerned about movement of the strap against the upper polished section of the forks.

I will have to look at using the frame/crash bar area next.

I will likely have to trailer soon and am in a quandary about where to secure the front of the bike.

On the Street Glide I used a Kiwi Indian tie-down for baggers.
I really liked this but not sure right now if it will work with the Road Glide Ultra especially with the air deflectors mounted between the front tank bolt and crash bar.

I found myself on the side of the freeway a few days ago and ended up getting a tow truck to bring me home. I had thought before that if I were to ever trailer this bike it wouldn't be nearly as easy as my old softail, and so when the tow truck showed up it was a real challenge. He only had 2 ratchet straps and 1 of them was broken, but I made it work. Not having ever tied this bike down before I was kinda scratching my head on this one. I ended up putting the hook over the tank mounting bolt and got it home no problem.

I guess I was willing to chance it a bit knowing that my insurance co. had sent them and I would be covered if something were to happen, besides I blew my winter budget and didn't get it painted, so I guess I'd be willing to allow them to if needed.

It seems to be common to tie down to fork legs above fender mount, but for those of use with PC'd legs this wouldn't work to well.

Peace

Lol - True That, Quicksand. But, it does happen. And some times to the best of us.
