My '05 housings swapped from front to back of the stock bracket with zero issues. I will defer to Chainsaw on the newer '09 and up differences.
I was able to adjust my headlights deep into the fairing and they sat close to flush in the SE bezel. (black painted one, vs the molded unpainted bezel).
And yes the adjusters stuck out pretty damned far... Never bothered me, much easier to get to. :-)
The 2010 and up "dual trim headlamp" part number 67959-10 can be used with your existing 09 and older headlight bulbs. I am editing a video right now on how to do it. I will reply to this thread with a link to the video.
