Default How to remove a gas tank off a 09 up road glide.

We get this question alot. How do I remove a gas tank of my bike to install something. Well here are some pics of a 09 roadglide.

1st remove seat and disconnect battary. To be safe.
2. You will remove the Center consloe.

Here you can see we are removing the front bolt and gas gap. Be sure not to drop anything in you gas tank when your cap is off.

After removing seat there are some bolts you will remove on the end of your tank where your seat silde's in. The one bolt in the center is for the console to remove it.

After removing the the gas cap and center bolt up front and rear bolt in back now youy are ready to remove center console. When raising it up there is a wire harness and some fuel vent lines under it in a thin bracket just bend back and slide hoses and wire harness out to lift on console to remove. Next you are ready to disconnect the Vent line to tank and wire harness in picture where my 2 fingers are at.

Next your are ready to remove the 2 front side bolts that are connected to the frame to remove gas tank. Whats nice about the new tanks you dont have to drain the gas or worry about gas getting everywhere. But please it might be heavy with 6 gallons of gas in there so if you have to drain some gas out to lighten it up.( might be heavy for others)
Now you are ready to disconnect the fuel line. Now theres 58/62 psi of fuel in this line grab a rag and some saftey glasses so when you push up on the quick connect fuel does not spray you.
And now after all that you can remove the tank and do what you need to do. When you do this every day you can have this tank off in less than 10min.
Easy as eating apple pie...

When I removed my tank the manual said you can get rid of the pressure in the fuel line by removing the fuel pump fuse and letting the bike idle until it stalls, then press the start button and hold it for three seconds longer.

when I removed mine off of my 2010 I had to unscrew the (im guessing here) petcock to drain the tank. well when I did that the plastic fuel line looked like it was just hanging on. I am guessing I did something wrong. LOL any idea what and how to fix it when I get to put it back together?
