Default Oil level

I know that they say anywhere from 3-4 qts, but curious on what ya'lls actually take. I did an oil change today with Mobile 1 V-Twin 20/50. Added 3 qts and went for about a 5 mile ride to warm her up. Checked oil on the jiffy stand when I got home and it was halfway between full and add 1 qt. I wouldn't classify it as hot after only 5 miles, so would this be good, or should I add another half qt? Bear with me, I'm still new to this bike and its my first oil change since I got it.

Also, is the oil level checked with the cap screwed all the way in, or just resting there. I have to ask this as my Honda four wheeler says NOT to screw the cap in when checking the oil level.

Thanks guys!

Add 1/4 quart, ride and check again. Four full quarts will overfill it. There is a large difference on oil level from full cold to full hot...

Yes, screw the cap all the way in to check.

Oh, and enjoy your new ride!!!

I personally like having it between the marks so I would say you were perfect in my book. After stopping let the bike idle for a few minutes before shutting down which should pump any oil from the crank case into the oil pan so you get an accurate reading.

Thanks guys. Thats what I thought. Being halfway between the two, I'll probably just leave it there and carry a qt in the saddle bag just in case I feel the need for a hair more.

I keep mine at or below the halfway mark as well. If you fill these newer bikes to the top of the full mark they have a tendency to puke a little oil into the Air filter.

Mine has been puking the last 5000 miles from when the dealer did the oil change when I bought it. Hoping this will stop that now.

3.5 quarts. No more, no less. You won't get any blow through the air filter.
