Need help with WI to MO

I am planning a trip from LaCrosse, Wisconsin down to Kimberling City, MO, When you google or Mapquest it, it gives you about 5 different ways to go. It will be a 1 day trip down and spending a few days down there. Anyone have any experience going down there from WI. Some people I have talked to have said that the way Google takes you down through Cedar Rapids, IA that the roads are not real good. Any help from someone you have done it on 2 wheels would be great.

OK, I'll make my contribution.
Start on the west side of the river at LaCrosse and follow the closest road to the river all the way down to the Iowa/Missouri border. You want to do Lansing, Harper's Ferry, McGregor, Guttenburg. Don't miss the left turn just south of the bridge at Millville or you'll miss maybe the best motorcycle road in Iowa. Continue south through Balltown(stop at Brietbachs for lunch) and Sherrill, once you get to hwy 52 at Dubuque stay on that and 67 all the way to Davenport/Rock Island, which is about as far south as I've been in that area.
All of these roads are normally in good to excellent condition, lightly traveled during the week and not real busy on weekends.
Can't help you much in Missouri, been a few years but I have traveled 218, and I know the route through Hannibal is popular. Just stay along the river, you can't screw up too bad.

i guess it depends on how quick you want to get there.
The roads are fine through Cedar Rapids on 380, which turns into 218 south.
Id take the Great River Road as far south as possible and start workin my way over. Maybe cross over the river around Prairie Du Chien, get on 52 to 151 then take 218 south to 61 south. After that i am not sure.

To help you make your decisions, I'd go here. That has some of more interesting motorcycle roads, sorted by state.

In theory, Theory and Reality are the same. In reality, they are different.

Badger, I've done basically that same trip a couple of times. If you want to make time, I think the way to go would be to head over to I-35 and take it down to KC. Then pick up Hwy. 71.

But for a more scenic ride, I'd take Hy. 61 out of Dubuque, then pick up 54 and go through Lake of the Ozarks. The roads are all good down that way.

I made the same trip from here.....Nixa, Missouri....to Dubuque, Iowa last year. Let me see if I can link you the path I took. You definitely don't want to go to Kansas City unless you want to drive a couple hours or more out of your way. I was just down at Kimberling yesterday. It's about 30 minutes from my house.

I stand corrected.....I thought you were closer to Dubuque. You do want to run across to KC for the fastest ride....almost all 4 lane.

Try this route. I know from KC to Kimberling that this is the fastest route.
